Office Chair Immobility

Admin October 11, 2026

The immobility of an office chair can involve various situations, and targeted solutions are required based on the specific problem.

If the height adjustment function fails, first determine whether the pneumatic rod is completely unable to move up and down or if there is stuttering or abnormal noise during adjustment. If the pneumatic rod is completely non-functional, you can replace it with a new one by yourself, with a price range of approximately 30 - 230 yuan. If there is stuttering or abnormal noise during adjustment, since the interior of the pneumatic rod is a high-pressure sealed structure, it should not be lubricated directly. Instead, focus on the metal friction surface at the connection between the base and the pneumatic rod. Check for rust or wear, and if necessary, sand it down and apply a small amount of lubricating oil.

If the swivel function is not flexible, manifested by the need to exert force or the production of friction sounds when rotating the seat, it is usually related to insufficient lubrication of theๅบ•็›˜่ฝฌ็›˜่ฝจ้“ (chassis turntable track). In this case, apply white lithium grease (recommended viscosity grade NLGI 2) to the turntable track. Before applying, clean the dust on the track surface. After applying, rotate the seat several times repeatedly to evenly distribute the grease.

If the wheels are stuck and do not rotate, troubleshoot step by step: First, check if the wheel surface is wrapped with foreign objects such as paper scraps, hair, or threads. Carefully clean them and then test the rotation. If the wheels still do not rotate after cleaning, check if the rubber part of the wheels is severely worn or cracked. If damaged, replace them with new wheels. If the wheel axle is loose, tighten the fixing screws. If the axle is rusty, first remove the rust with a rust remover and then drip a small amount of lubricating oil. In addition, an uneven or rough ground surface (such as a carpet) may also cause the wheels to rotate with resistance. Try moving the chair to a flatter and smoother ground.

If the chair cannot return to the upright position after reclining, first check the operational aspect: Confirm whether the control lever under the seat has been accidentally pushed in or stuck below the fixing hole, or not fully pulled out. Operate the control lever correctly. If the operation is correct, check the bottom of the backrest for foreign objects blocking the pivot area and the gaps in the chassis mechanism. Thoroughly clean them and then test the return function. If it still cannot return to the upright position, it may involve mechanical failures, such as hydraulic system failures (damage or failure of the pneumatic rod), lock block/tongue failures, deformation of the lock column, damage to the control paddle, or spring failures. Try to manually assist in returning it to the upright position and check the spring tension. If the spring is loose, replace it. If other components are damaged, contact professional maintenance.
