Office Chair Hygiene
Admin October 08, 2026
Maintaining office chair hygiene requires following the correct cleaning process and adopting targeted methods for different materials to ensure effective cleaning without damaging the materials.

I. General Cleaning Process
When cleaning an office chair, follow the principle of cleaning from top to bottom and handling different areas separately to avoid repeated contamination or missing spots. The specific steps are as follows:
- Backrest: Clean this area first to prevent dust from falling onto already cleaned areas.
- Seat cushion: Clean immediately after the backrest, focusing on stains caused by daily contact.
- Armrests: Pay attention to dust accumulation in the gaps when cleaning, and use cotton swabs to assist in cleaning.
- Chair legs: Clean these last to avoid touching other areas during the cleaning process and causing secondary contamination.
Choose a slightly damp cloth that does not drip water as the cleaning tool to reduce water stain residue and the risk of material dampness. If using a cleaning agent, test it in a hidden area first to ensure it does not cause fading or deformation.
II. Cleaning Methods for Different Materials
Metal parts (such as aluminum alloy chair legs)
- For daily cleaning, wipe with clean water and then remove water stains with a slightly damp cloth.
- For stubborn stains, wipe with a mixture of equal parts hot water and white vinegar. The acidity of the vinegar can dissolve mineral deposits, but be sure to dry promptly to prevent oxidation.
Leather (leather backrest, leather seat cushion, genuine leather office chair)
- First, wipe the surface dust with clean water, then use a sponge dipped in professional leather cleaner to clean in a circular motion, avoiding pressing hard to prevent leather deformation.
- After cleaning, apply leather conditioner to form a protective film and prevent cracking. For genuine leather, wipe with a soft dry cloth and avoid using rough tools.
Mesh (mesh backrest, mesh seat cushion, mesh office chair)
- First, pat the edges to shake off dust, then use a damp sponge dipped in a small amount of neutral cleaning paste to repeatedly wipe dirty areas, focusing on local scrubbing for heavily soiled spots.
- After cleaning, dry thoroughly or use a hairdryer on low heat to dry, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent mesh brittleness. For white/gray mesh, shorten the drying time.
Plastic parts (armrests, chair frame)
- For daily cleaning, wipe with a dry cloth. If stained with oil, wipe lightly with a damp cloth dipped in a small amount of neutral detergent, then dry and keep ventilated.
PU material
- For the armrests, wipe lightly with a damp towel. For stubborn stains, use leather cleaner or polish for deep maintenance, avoiding alcohol-based solvents.
III. Precautions
- Cleaning frequency: It is recommended to clean visible stains at least once a week and perform a deep cleaning once a month.
- Drying treatment: Ensure all materials are completely dry after cleaning to prevent mildew or metal rust.
- Tool selection: Avoid using rough tools such as steel wool or stiff brushes to prevent scratching the surface.
