Office Chair Hydraulic Issues
Admin October 16, 2026
Office chair hydraulic issues require targeted measures based on specific manifestations. Ensure safety during repairs and seek professional help if necessary.

Chair Cannot Be Raised or Lowered
- Sealing Problem: Poor internal sealing of the hydraulic rod can prevent the chair from being raised or lowered. Invert the chair, carefully disassemble the connection between the hydraulic rod and the seat using tools, and check if the sealing rubber ring is damaged. If damaged, purchase a compatible sealing rubber ring for replacement and then reassemble it.
- Control Valve Failure: A malfunctioning control valve can also prevent the chair from being raised or lowered. First, try cleaning the valve to remove any possible impurities. If the problem persists after cleaning, replace the control valve with a new one.
Chair Makes Noise When Raised or Lowered
- Lack of Lubrication: A lack of lubrication in the hydraulic rod can cause noise. Use professional hydraulic oil or lubricant and apply an appropriate amount to the moving parts of the hydraulic rod. Then, repeatedly raise and lower the chair to evenly distribute the lubricant.
- Loose Components: Loose components can also cause noise. Tighten any loose screws using a wrench or other tools.
Other Common Issues
- Seal Ring Leakage: If the chair feels particularly loose at the connection between the seat and the base when sitting, has difficulty in raising or lowering, and there are black oil stains on the rod, it may be due to seal ring leakage. In this case, it is not recommended to disassemble it yourself, especially for chairs that have been used for more than five years. It is advisable to replace the chair directly.
- Chair Sinks: First, check if the hydraulic rod has any cracks, deformation, or wear. If so, replace it promptly. If the hydraulic rod is fine, try adjusting the air pressure by rotating the adjustment knob at the bottom of the seat to avoid setting it too high or too low. If the problem persists, clean the hydraulic column by wiping off oil stains with a cloth and cleaner, then reinstall it and ensure the nuts are tightly secured.
Repair Precautions: Repairing the hydraulic rod of an office chair can be dangerous. Before operating, ensure the chair is in a stable state to prevent it from falling over and causing injury during the repair process. If you lack repair experience or are unable to solve the problem, seek help from professional repair personnel.
