Office Chair Hydraulic Column

Admin October 17, 2026

Problems with the office chair hydraulic column can be addressed through targeted repairs based on different fault types. If you lack experience or are unable to resolve the issue, it is advisable to seek professional assistance.

Identifying the Problem

  • If the chair cannot be raised or lowered, it may be due to poor internal sealing of the hydraulic rod or a faulty control valve. Poor sealing can lead to hydraulic oil leakage, affecting the lifting function; a faulty control valve may prevent the hydraulic system from regulating pressure properly.
  • If the chair makes unusual noises when being raised or lowered, it may be due to a lack of lubrication in the hydraulic rod or loose components. A lack of lubrication increases friction between components, causing noise, while loose components can produce clanging sounds during movement.

Repair Methods for Different Problems

  • Sealing Issues: First, invert the chair and carefully use tools to disassemble the connection between the hydraulic rod and the seat. Check if the sealing rubber ring is damaged. If damaged, purchase a compatible sealing rubber ring for replacement and then reassemble it. The sealing rubber ring is a crucial component for preventing hydraulic oil leakage, and timely replacement after damage can restore sealing effectiveness.
  • Control Valve Faults: Try cleaning the valve to remove any impurities that may be present. Impurities can clog the valve and affect its normal operation. If cleaning does not resolve the issue, a new control valve needs to be replaced.
  • Lack of Lubrication: Use professional hydraulic oil or lubricating oil and drip an appropriate amount onto the moving parts of the hydraulic rod. Then, repeatedly raise and lower the chair to evenly distribute the lubricating oil. This reduces friction between components, eliminates noise, and makes lifting and lowering smoother.
  • Loose Components: Use a wrench or other tools to tighten any loose screws. Ensure that all components are firmly connected to avoid noise or improper functioning during lifting and lowering.

Precautions

Repairing an office chair hydraulic column can be dangerous. Before operating, ensure that the chair is in a stable position to prevent it from falling and causing injury during the repair process. If you lack repair experience or are unable to resolve the issue, do not force the operation. Seek professional repair assistance promptly to avoid causing more severe damage or triggering safety accidents.
