Office Chair Hydraulic Accident
Admin October 11, 2026
Office chair hydraulic accidents mainly refer to the explosion problems of pneumatic lift chairs. These accidents have serious consequences and require high attention.

Accident Cases
- Ms. Liu in Xiamen was sitting on a pneumatic lift chair to blow-dry her hair after taking a shower when the chair suddenly exploded. The pneumatic rod inserted into her body, and during the surgery, more than ten fragments were removed from her intestines.
- In 2007, the chair Ms. Lou sat on in Dinghai District, Zhoushan City, Zhejiang Province, exploded, and a large number of fragments penetrated into her body up to ten centimeters.
- In 2010, a woman in Fujian suffered severe injuries and fell into a coma on the spot due to the explosion of a pneumatic lift chair. Her buttocks were injured, and her rectum was torn.
- In 2013, Ms. Liu was sitting on a lift swivel chair she bought online to blow-dry her hair when the chair exploded. A steel rod with a diameter of 3 centimeters pierced through her body, and more than ten metal fragments were removed from her abdomen and intestines.
- In 2015, Ms. Liu in Xiamen was surfing the Internet at home when her lift chair suddenly exploded, and the pneumatic rod inserted into her anus up to more than 20 centimeters long.
Accident Causes
- Unstable nitrogen: The pneumatic rod of a pneumatic lift chair is filled with nitrogen at a pressure of 1 to 2 atmospheres and sealed with a sealing ring. If the purity of the nitrogen filled in the cylinder is insufficient and the ambient temperature is too high, the gas may expand rapidly and cause an explosion.
- Use of compressed air: Some unscrupulous manufacturers replace the safe nitrogen with ordinary compressed air to save costs. The oxygen in the air will continuously react with the metal inner wall through oxidation, causing continuous rusting and heat accumulation. This turns the pneumatic rod into a sealed, continuously pressurized pressure cooker, with the internal pressure soaring, the external tube wall becoming thinner and more brittle, and ultimately leading to an explosion.
Safety Tips
- Buy genuine products: Avoid buying products without proper labels. You can turn the chair over to check the pneumatic pump. Genuine products will indicate the manufacturer of the pneumatic pump.
- Reduce sliding: When using a lift chair, try to minimize the sliding of the seat to avoid uneven force on the pneumatic rod caused by repeated heavy pressure and movement, which may form an explosion hazard.
- Operate correctly: Do not frequently adjust and rotate the lift chair, and do not disassemble it casually, especially the pneumatic device.
