Homemade Cushion for Office Chair

Admin October 10, 2026

There are several methods for making a homemade cushion for an office chair:

Method 1: Making a cushion with corduroy fabric First, select suitable corduroy fabric and cut it into the appropriate shape according to the size of the office chair. Then, lay a layer of cotton inside to create a two-layer structure, enhancing the cushion's comfort and softness. During the making process, you may encounter some adjustment issues. For example, initially, you might try placing a certain lining fabric (possibly a wall covering) entirely on the cushion, but find that the position is not suitable and there may not be enough fabric, so you need to abandon this approach. If the lining fabric is too long, it will wrinkle and affect the appearance, so it is ultimately decided to make it shorter, with the front spread out and the back tied with a rope. The front is then fixed to the chair surface with a piece of lining fabric held in place by an elastic band to prevent the cushion from moving around. When marking the position of the front rounded corners and determining where to place the lining fabric, ensure that both sides are of equal length and that the lining fabric is not too wide. After completion, there should be a margin of two to two and a half centimeters. First, sew the top edge, thread the elastic band through, and when closing the opening, pull the elastic band tight and angle it according to the eye positions. Cut off the excess part, leave an opening for turning, and finally fix the rope and close the opening. Thus, the cushion is completed.

Method 2: Making a cushion with square and rectangular fabrics Prepare two 37x37 square fabrics and one 10x155 rectangular fabric. Divide each side of the square fabrics into three equal parts and then connect the lines to draw a tic-tac-toe grid, which will give you the basic structure of the cushion. Cut and sew according to this structure to create an office chair cushion with a unique design.

Method 3: DIY cushion from old clothes You can also use old clothes for DIY handmade office chair cushions. This method is both environmentally friendly and economical, allowing you to design the cushion's style and pattern according to your preferences and the material and color of the old clothes. During the making process, first cut the old clothes into the appropriate shape and size, then sew and fill them, and finally fix them on the office chair.
