Office Chair High-Low Temperature Resistance

Admin October 11, 2026

Office chairs need to meet the requirements for high- and low-temperature resistance. Some unqualified products pose explosion risks, and attention should be paid to the safety standards of the gas cylinders when purchasing.

According to the QB/T 2280-2016 "Office Chairs" standard, office chairs need to pass high- and low-temperature resistance tests to ensure their structural stability and safety in extreme temperature environments. This requirement mainly targets key components such as gas cylinders and plastic parts to prevent material aging, deformation, or functional failure due to temperature changes. For example, if a gas cylinder fails the high- and low-temperature resistance test, it may expand at high temperatures or become brittle at low temperatures, increasing the risk of explosion.

Risks of non-compliant high- and low-temperature resistance
The results of a 2020 sampling inspection of swivel chairs by the State Administration for Market Regulation showed that some products had safety hazards due to non-compliant high- and low-temperature resistance of the gas cylinders. The gas cylinder is the core component for the height adjustment function of an office chair, and it is filled with high-pressure gas (usually nitrogen). If there are defects in the material or workmanship, extreme temperatures may cause the following problems:

  1. High-temperature environment: The internal pressure of the gas cylinder increases. If the shell strength is insufficient or the sealing is poor, it may lead to gas leakage or explosion.
  2. Low-temperature environment: The material becomes more brittle and is prone to breakage when subjected to external impact, which may also trigger an instantaneous release of gas.
Although the probability of such accidents is relatively low, the consequences can be severe, potentially causing personal injury or property damage.

Purchase recommendations
To reduce risks, consumers need to focus on the following aspects:

  1. Choose products from reputable manufacturers: Well-known brands usually have stricter quality control systems, and the gas cylinders need to pass national mandatory certifications (such as 3C certification) or international standards (such as BIFMA certification).
  2. Check the markings on the gas cylinder: Qualified products should be labeled with the manufacturer, specifications, and safety certification information. Avoid purchasing "three-no" products (products with no manufacturer name, no production date, and no quality certification).
  3. Avoid low-priced and inferior products: Some low-priced office chairs may use recycled materials or simplify the manufacturing process to cut costs, resulting in non-compliant high- and low-temperature resistance.
  4. Regular inspection and maintenance: Avoid frequent height adjustments or rough handling during use. Regularly check the surface of the gas cylinder for cracks, gas leaks, etc.

By following standardized purchasing practices and using the chairs reasonably, the safety risks caused by insufficient high- and low-temperature resistance of office chairs can be effectively avoided.
