Office Chair Hexagon Socket Screw Model Specifications
Admin October 08, 2026
The common models of hexagon socket screws for office chairs are M6 or M8, with specific specifications and usage scenarios as follows:

1. Models and Parameters
- M6 Screw: With a diameter of 6mm and a thread pitch of 1mm, it belongs to fine-pitch threads and is suitable for light to medium-load components, such as the connection between the base and chair legs. Its compact structure reduces space occupation while meeting daily strength requirements.
- M8 Screw: With a diameter of 8mm and a thread pitch of 1.25mm, it belongs to coarse-pitch threads and is often used in parts that need to bear heavier weights, such as the connection between the chair back and seat. Its thicker diameter and larger thread pitch provide higher tensile strength, ensuring structural stability.
2. Matching Operation Tools
- M6 Screws usually require a 5mm hexagon wrench, with the wrench size matching the width of the screw's hexagon socket to avoid slipping or damaging the screw head.
- M8 Screws require a 6mm hexagon wrench, and the tool size must be strictly matched; otherwise, it may lead to installation difficulties or wear on the screw head.
- When unsure of the specifications: First, use a vernier caliper to measure the diameter of the screw rod (excluding the threaded part), or test the wrench's fit by inserting it into the screw head and gently rotating to confirm if it is securely in place.
3. Material and Maintenance Recommendations
- Material Selection: Screws are mostly made of iron or stainless steel. Iron screws are cost-effective but prone to rust; stainless steel screws offer excellent rust resistance and are suitable for humid environments or long-term use scenarios.
- Regular Inspection: It is recommended to check the tightness of the screws every 3-6 months, especially in high-frequency use areas such as the chair back and armrests. If any looseness is found, tighten them promptly with a wrench to avoid structural wobbling or damage.
- Brand Differences: Screw specifications may vary slightly among different brands of office chairs (e.g., some high-end models may use M5 or M10 screws). Actual measurements should be taken based on the physical object to avoid selecting tools based on experience alone.
4. Precautions
- When installing or removing screws, keep the wrench perpendicular to the screw axis to avoid excessive force causing thread slippage.
- If the screw head is worn, try using a rubber gasket to increase friction or use a dedicated screw extractor for handling. Do not forcefully rotate it.
- Screws that have not been maintained for a long time may be difficult to remove due to rust. First, spray a small amount of lubricant (such as WD-40) and wait 5-10 minutes before operating.
