Office Chair Heightening Wheels

Admin October 09, 2026

Office chair heightening wheels can be achieved by replacing larger-sized wheels, adding heightening pads, using caster chair foot covers, or high-caster fixing devices. Here are the specific methods:

1. Replace with larger-sized wheels
First, measure the diameter of the original wheels (common sizes are 5cm, 6cm, and 7.5cm). When measuring, remove the casters and turn them upside down to ensure accurate data. Also, confirm the wheel type: snap-ring type has a circular pin inserted into the chair leg hole, while threaded type requires a wrench to tighten the screw threads. For example, a 6.5cm diameter enlarged wheel piece uses a solid steel rod, a nylon wheel frame, and a PU wheel edge, fitting a socket snap ring with a diameter of 1.1cm (compliant with national standards but not suitable for IKEA chair legs with a 1cm diameter). During installation, pull the old wheel out forcefully from the chair leg and insert the new wheel rod into the chair leg hole to complete the replacement. This method directly increases the wheel height with significant effects, but attention should be paid to the compatibility between the wheel type and the chair leg.

2. Add heightening pads
Select heightening pads made of EVA, PVC, or ABS materials and place them under the chair legs to increase the distance between the chair legs and the ground. These materials are wear-resistant, non-slip, and cost-effective. During installation, ensure that the heightening pads match the size of the chair legs to avoid reduced stability due to size mismatches. This method is simple to operate, requires no disassembly of the wheels, and is suitable for temporary or mild heightening needs.

3. Use caster chair foot covers
Silicone or TPR soft-shell foot covers can be directly placed over the existing wheels without replacing the original wheels. Their design increases the overall height of the wheels while providing floor scratch protection and noise reduction. For example, TPR material foot covers can reduce noise when the wheels roll, while silicone material better protects the floor surface. During installation, ensure that the foot covers match the size of the wheels to avoid looseness or detachment. This method is suitable for scenarios with high floor protection requirements and no need for significant heightening.

4. Use high-caster fixing devices
If a slight heightening of 1-2cm is needed, a high-caster fixing device with a U-shaped slot is an ideal choice. It is fixed above the existing wheels through the slot, directly increasing the wheel height while maintaining the rolling function of the original wheels. Such devices are usually made of lightweight materials, easy to install, and require no tool assistance. However, attention should be paid to their load-bearing capacity to avoid deformation or damage due to overloading. This method is suitable for scenarios with high precision requirements for height adjustment.
