Methods for Heightening Office Chairs
Office chairs can be heightened through the following methods, and the appropriate operation should be selected according to the chair type:

I. Heightening Pneumatic Office Chairs This method is suitable for modern office chairs equipped with pneumatic rods. The operation steps are as follows:
- Locate the adjustment handle: There is usually a single-rod or double-rod height adjustment handle under the seat.
- Adjust your posture: Leave the seat or slightly lift your body off the seat surface to avoid pressure hindering the operation of the pneumatic rod.
- Pull the handle and lift: Pull the handle upwards while gently lifting the seat cushion with both hands to raise the seat using the elasticity of the pneumatic rod. If you are relatively light in weight, you can stand up and directly pull the seat cushion upwards with your hands while pulling the handle to assist in lifting.
- Lock the height: After releasing the handle, it will automatically lock, and the seat will be fixed at the new height.
II. Heightening Screw-Type Office Chairs This method is suitable for old-fashioned mechanical adjustment chairs or some models with fixed heights that require manual knob adjustment. The operation steps are as follows:
- Locate the knob: Find the adjustment knob at the bottom of the pneumatic rod or support rod.
- Rotate counterclockwise: According to the principle of screws, rotating the knob counterclockwise will gradually raise the seat.
- Fix the height: After adjusting to the appropriate position, rotate the knob clockwise to tighten and fix the seat.
III. Heightening with Auxiliary Tools (for non-adjustable chairs) If the chair has no adjustment function, it can be heightened through the following methods:
- Install heightening foot pads: Choose metal or plastic foot pads with anti-slip designs and place them directly under the chair legs. These foot pads can increase the height by 2-15 cm. Ensure that the size of the foot pads matches that of the chair legs to avoid slipping or tipping over.
- Replace with longer pneumatic rods: If the original pneumatic rod is damaged or has insufficient travel, you can purchase a longer pneumatic rod of the same model. When operating, confirm the diameter and length of the pneumatic rod, disassemble the base for replacement, and use tools to tighten the screws. Note: Disassembling the pneumatic rod by yourself poses safety risks. It is recommended to contact professional maintenance personnel for operation.
IV. Troubleshooting and Safety Tips If the chair cannot be raised according to the above methods, it may be caused by the following reasons:
- Pneumatic rod leakage: The seal of the pneumatic rod fails, preventing it from being raised. A new pneumatic rod needs to be replaced.
- Stuck handle: The adjustment handle is stuck due to dust or wear. You can spray lubricant and repeatedly pull it to try.
- Rusted knob: The knob of the screw-type chair cannot rotate due to rust. It needs to be derusted or the parts need to be replaced.
Verify comfort after adjustment: The best height is when your feet are flat on the ground, your knees are bent at a 90ยฐ angle, and your elbows are level with the desktop. This ensures smooth blood circulation and reduces lumbar pressure during long sitting. If the problem persists, it is recommended to contact after-sales service or professional maintenance personnel for handling.
