Office Chair Heightening and Fixing

Admin October 13, 2026

The method for heightening and fixing an office chair should be selected based on the type of chair. Here are some common solutions:

1. Pneumatic Office Chair Heightening

This method is suitable for chairs equipped with a pneumatic rod. The operation steps are as follows: Locate the height adjustment handle beneath the seat, leave the chair or slightly lift your body off the seat surface, pull the handle upwards, and at the same time, gently lift the seat cushion with both hands. Utilize the elasticity of the pneumatic rod to raise the seat. After releasing the handle, it will automatically lock the height. This method relies on the elastic function of the pneumatic rod. If the pneumatic rod fails (such as air leakage or jamming), it is necessary to prioritize the inspection and replacement of the pneumatic rod.

2. Screw-Type Office Chair Heightening

For chairs that adjust their height through a threaded structure, the operation steps are as follows: Find the knob at the bottom of the gas rod or support rod, rotate the knob counterclockwise, and the seat will gradually rise due to the thread engagement. After adjusting to the appropriate height, rotate the knob clockwise to fix the position. This method requires ensuring that the knob is fully tightened to prevent the seat from descending due to looseness.

3. Heightening with Auxiliary Tools (for non-adjustable chairs)

If the chair has no built-in adjustment function, it can be heightened using external tools:

  • Install heightening foot pads: Choose metal or plastic foot pads with anti-slip designs and place them directly at the bottom of the chair legs to increase the height by 5-15 cm. Ensure that the contact surface between the foot pads and the chair legs is flat to prevent slipping.
  • Replace with a longer gas rod: If the original gas rod is damaged or has insufficient travel, purchase a longer gas rod of the same model. Before operation, confirm the diameter and length of the gas rod, disassemble the base, replace it, and test whether the lifting function works properly.
  • Install dedicated heightening spacers: Purchase nylon heightening spacers (recommended thickness: 3 cm/5 cm, with a load-bearing capacity of at least 100 kg). Remove the original chassis screws (usually M8 size), place the spacers between the chassis and the chair legs, and re-fix them. This method requires ensuring that the screws are tightened to prevent the spacers from shifting.

4. Replacing with Heightening Chair Legs

This method is suitable for chairs with detachable chair legs. The operation steps are as follows: Measure the interface size of the original chair legs, purchase matching heightening chair leg accessories, use a wrench to unscrew the old chair legs, align the notches to install the new chair legs, and after installation, shake the chair to test its stability. Ensure that the five-star feet touch the ground evenly to prevent tipping due to a shifted center of gravity.

Precautions: Turn off the chair's power supply (if it is an electric model) before operation to avoid pinching injuries. After heightening, test the stability of the chair to ensure that the load-bearing capacity meets safety standards. If any parts need to be disassembled, it is recommended to keep the original parts for future maintenance.
