Height Issue of Office Chairs for Long Sitting
If an office chair feels too short after long sitting, it needs to be addressed according to the type of chair, and attention should also be paid to the hazards of improper height during long sitting.

Common Problems and Maintenance Ideas for Modern Adjustable Chairs (Office Chairs/Ergonomic Chairs)
If the chair sinks when sitting on it or cannot be adjusted higher despite trying, the common causes and solutions are as follows:
- Gas spring failure: This is the most common cause, possibly due to internal gas leakage or damage. As the core component of an adjustable chair, once the gas spring fails, the chair will not be able to maintain its height or be adjusted. The solution is to replace it with a new gas spring, choosing a specification and model that matches the original chair to ensure normal use after installation.
- Locking mechanism problem: If the locking mechanism at the bottom of the chair is too tight or stuck, it will hinder height adjustment. Try adjusting the locking mechanism to restore it to its normal state. For specific operations, refer to the chair's instruction manual or contact after-sales personnel for guidance.
- Loose connectors: Check if all screws and bolts are loose. If any are found to be loose, tighten them promptly. If you do not want to replace the gas spring temporarily, you can use an emergency fixing method: remove the fixing ring, find a PPR pipe of an appropriate height and place it over the gas spring as a support, and then reinstall the ring. However, the chair will no longer be adjustable in height thereafter.
Solutions for Old-fashioned Four-legged Wooden Chairs or Fixed-height Dining Chairs
For non-adjustable chairs that feel too short, you can try the following methods:
- Use dedicated height-increasing pads: Purchase rubber or plastic chair leg height-increasing pads and directly place them over or stick them to the bottom of the chair legs. This method can stably raise the chair height by 2 - 5 centimeters, and it also has the advantages of anti-slip and noise reduction, making it the safest and most convenient choice.
- DIY height increase: Use materials at hand, such as cutting appropriate wooden blocks or thick fabric wrappers, and fix them to the chair legs and tie them tightly with ropes. Ensure that the height-increasing objects are firmly and stably fixed to prevent the chair from tipping over and causing safety hazards.
- Replace the chair: If the above methods do not work well or affect safety during use, the most fundamental solution is to replace it with a suitable chair.
In addition, improper seat height during long sitting can cause harm to the body, such as putting great pressure on the lumbar spine, obstructing blood circulation in the lower limbs, and causing overall body posture imbalance. The standard for correct seat height is that the knees are level with the hips, and the ideal sitting posture should have both feet flat on the ground, the thighs parallel to the ground, and the knees slightly lower than or equal to the height of the hips.
