Office Chair Height Adjustment Range

Admin October 09, 2026

The standard range for the height adjustment of office chairs is 40 - 50 centimeters. There are several main methods for adjusting the height of an office chair:

Pneumatic rod adjustment: This is currently the most common adjustment method for office chairs. A pneumatic rod device is installed beneath the office chair, and there is usually an adjustment handle below the chair seat. When you need to raise the chair, pull the handle upward, and the chair will ascend; to lower the chair height, press the handle downward while slightly lifting your body to use your body weight to assist the chair in descending. When using it, adjust the seat height to an appropriate position so that the front of the chair is just below your knees, allowing your feet to rest flat on the ground. This sitting posture helps reduce leg pressure and maintain body balance. When the office chair is not in use for a long time, it is recommended to raise the chair to its highest position. This allows the pressure on the gas above and below the piston to be even, extending the chair's service life.

Screw adjustment: Some office chairs use a screw-type adjustment structure. A threaded device is installed at the connection between the chair legs and the seat. You can change the height by rotating the chair seat or the adjustment component below it. When rotating clockwise, the chair rises; when rotating counterclockwise, the chair lowers. During operation, you need to apply a little force to rotate to ensure a smooth height change. This adjustment method is relatively simple, but its adjustment accuracy may not be as good as that of the pneumatic rod adjustment.

Hydraulic adjustment: Some high-end office chairs are equipped with a hydraulic adjustment system, and its adjustment method is similar to that of the pneumatic rod adjustment. You can raise or lower the chair by pulling or pressing the adjustment lever below the seat. The hydraulic adjustment system provides a smoother and more precise height adjustment experience, making the chair move more smoothly during the lifting and lowering process without obvious shaking or jamming. However, due to the high cost of the hydraulic adjustment system, office chairs equipped with this system are usually relatively more expensive.
