Office Chair Height Adjustment Operation

Admin October 22, 2026

The operation of adjusting the height of an office chair mainly consists of three steps: finding the control device, adjusting the height, and completing the adjustment. Here are the specific operation methods:

Step 1: Finding the Control Device The height adjustment control device of an office chair is usually located beneath the seat. Common forms include handles, knobs, or levers. Some models may be equipped with one or two handles, while others use a rotating knob design. For example, pneumatic office chairs often use a lever-type control rod, while inflatable chairs rely on a knob on the gas cylinder. If the chair has fixed screws or dual adjustment rods at the bottom, it is necessary to first confirm their positions and functions to avoid misoperation.

Step 2: Adjusting the Height

  1. Pull-rod or Lever Type: While sitting on the chair, simply pull up the control rod or lever beneath the seat, and the seat will move up or down accordingly. Some pneumatic models require a 'pumping' action (repeatedly pushing the lever up and down) to adjust the height, similar to the principle of a bicycle pump.
  2. Knob Type: If the chair uses a knob for control (such as an inflatable chair), turning the knob clockwise lowers the seat height, while turning it counterclockwise raises it. When operating, maintain body stability to avoid losing balance due to excessive rotation force.
  3. Special Structure Adjustment:
    • If the swivel chair has fixed screws at the bottom, loosen the screws first, adjust to the desired height, and then tighten them again to secure.
    • If there are two adjustment rods beneath the seat, sit on the seat and lift the 'up-down adjustment handle'. Release it to lock the height once satisfied.

Step 3: Completing the Adjustment After adjusting to a comfortable position, return the control lever or knob to its original position. Some pneumatic chairs require pressing the lever downward to fix the height, while certain models complete the locking by pulling the lever upward to lift the seat and pressing it downward to lower it. After operation, gently shake the seat to confirm that the height is stable and does not slide.

Precautions: When adjusting, consider the height of the desk and your own height to ensure that your eyes are level with the computer screen, avoiding shoulder and neck fatigue from a seat that is too high or leg compression from a seat that is too low. If the height adjustment function of the chair fails, it may be due to air leakage in the gas cylinder or a stuck control device. Contact a professional for repair and do not disassemble it yourself.
