Office Chair Height Adjustment
Admin October 14, 2026
There are several methods for adjusting the height of an office chair, and you can choose the appropriate one based on the specific structure of the chair:

Common Adjustment Methods
- Chairs with a handle under the seat: If there is a handle under the seat of the chair, when you lift the handle upwards, the high-pressure gas inside the air rod is compressed, and the seat will naturally rise. If you need to lower the height, you can turn the handle upwards and lift your body to sit on the chair, using your body weight to compress the gas and achieve a descent.
- Chairs with fixed screws at the bottom: Some swivel chairs have fixed screws at the bottom. When adjusting, you first need to loosen the screws, manually adjust the seat to the desired height, and then tighten the screws again to fix it.
- Chairs with dual adjustment levers: If there are two adjustment levers under the seat, one is for adjusting the up-and-down height, and the other is for adjusting the left-and-right position. When adjusting the height, sit on the seat and lift the lever that controls the up-and-down height. Release it when the seat reaches the desired height.
- Chairs with dual handles: Some chairs have two handles at the bottom, one for controlling the height and the other for controlling the backrest angle. You can try pressing to determine the handle for height adjustment and then operate it according to the above methods.
Adjustment Precautions
- Suitability for the office environment: When adjusting the height, you need to consider the height of the office desk and your own height. Ideally, when sitting in the chair, your eyes should be level with the computer screen to avoid cervical fatigue caused by looking up or down for a long time.
- Maintain a scientific sitting posture: The height of the seat should be appropriate. If it is too low, it is easy to make you sink into the chair and compress the blood vessels in your legs. If it is too high, it will cause eye fatigue. At the same time, you need to ensure that your feet are flat on the ground, your knees and hip joints are at a 90-degree angle, and your back naturally fits against the backrest.
Reference for Standard Height Range
- General standard: The standard sitting height of an office chair is 40 to 44 centimeters, and most mainstream products on the market support free adjustment from 360 to 480 millimeters.
- Height adaptation suggestions:
- Among adults with a height of 155 to 190 centimeters, short people under 160 centimeters are advised to adjust the chair height to the minimum of 360 millimeters.
- For tall people over 180 centimeters, if paired with a standard 75-centimeter desk, ensure that the thighs are parallel to the ground and the elbows are bent at a 90-degree angle. At this time, the height difference between the desk and the chair should be controlled between 28 and 32 centimeters.
Before adjustment, you can first observe the structure of the chair, choose the corresponding method, and make multiple fine adjustments to a comfortable state to improve the user experience and health protection.
