Office Chair Height Adjustment

Admin October 10, 2026

Office chairs can be raised, and the height adjustment methods vary depending on the type of office chair. Here is a detailed introduction:

Pneumatic-rod Office Chairs

These are the most common type of office chairs. There are several main adjustment methods:

  • Pulling up the adjustment lever: Usually, while sitting on the chair, find the adjustment lever located under the seat, hold it with your hand, and pull it upwards, and the chair will rise. This design is simple and straightforward. Users can easily adjust the chair height by sitting on the chair and operating the lever, meeting the needs of users of different heights for sitting posture height.
  • Pulling up the handle: Some pneumatic-rod office chairs have an adjustment handle under the seat surface. Pulling the handle upwards will raise the chair. This handle design is generally quite noticeable, making it easy for users to quickly locate and operate it. When the chair height needs to be adjusted, the operation can be completed quickly, improving efficiency.
  • Pressing the base handle and standing up: There is also a pressable handle under the chair base. While sitting on the chair, release the handle and gently stand up, and the chair will rise. This adjustment method is relatively unique as it combines the action of standing up to adjust the chair height, suitable for scenarios where fine-tuning of the chair height is required.

Screw-type Office Chairs

To adjust the height of a screw-type office chair, first turn the chair over and find the screw device connecting the chair legs to the seat. Rotate the screw device to change the chair height. Generally, rotating the screw device clockwise will raise the chair, and rotating it counterclockwise will lower it. Some screw-type office chairs also allow height adjustment by rotating the seat surface or the adjustment component below it, with clockwise rotation also raising the chair. This adjustment method is relatively traditional and requires the user to turn the chair over for operation. Although the process is a bit cumbersome, it offers high adjustment precision.

Hydraulic-adjustment Office Chairs

Some high-end office chairs are equipped with a hydraulic adjustment system. The adjustment method is similar to that of pneumatic-rod chairs. By pulling up the adjustment lever under the seat surface, the chair can be raised. The hydraulic adjustment system provides more stable and precise height adjustment, ensuring that the chair rises smoothly without sudden upward or downward movements, offering users a more comfortable experience.
