Office Chair Height Adjustment

Admin October 09, 2026

Office chair height adjustment should adhere to the national standard range of 40 - 50 centimeters. Here are the specific adjustment methods:

First, ensure that your feet can rest firmly on the ground when seated; this is the basic prerequisite for adjusting the height. When your feet are flat on the floor, your thighs and calves should form a right angle, with about 5 centimeters of space behind your knees, and you should be able to easily fit your palm under your thighs. If your feet cannot reach the ground after sitting down, it indicates that the chair is too high; in this case, you can use a footrest to provide support for your feet. If your legs feel cramped by the front edge of the chair, it means the chair is too low, and you need to raise it.

The suitable height varies slightly between genders; generally, men are suited to a height range of 41 to 43 centimeters. However, this is not absolute, and fine-tuning should be made based on individual physical conditions and actual usage needs.

When adjusting the height, other factors should also be considered. Regarding seat depth, ensure that it can fully support your buttocks, providing sufficient body support and reducing pressure on your hips. Seat width should not be overlooked either; make sure you can move freely to avoid restricted body movement, which can affect comfort and work efficiency. The position of the backrest is also crucial; it should fit snugly against your lower back, providing good support to prevent lower back fatigue and injury.

After adjusting the height and related parameters, check your overall body posture. Your back should be naturally straight, avoiding slouching; your shoulders should be relaxed and spread out, not hunched; your gaze should be roughly level with the top edge of the screen to reduce neck and eye fatigue; your arms should hang naturally, with your elbows at a right angle, keeping your arms in the most comfortable position and reducing pressure on your arms and shoulders.

Proper office chair height adjustment is crucial for maintaining physical health and improving work efficiency. Improper adjustment can lead to discomfort in various parts of the body and may even cause occupational diseases over time. Therefore, when using an office chair, be sure to adjust the height according to scientific methods.
