Office Chair Height Adjustment

Admin October 09, 2026

Here are the methods for adjusting the height of an office chair:

  1. Locate the hand control device
    If you are already seated, you can adjust the height by pulling up the control lever or turning the knob. If you are unsure about the specific operating component, refer to the chair's user manual or try each lever function one by one. Some chairs require continuous pressing of the lever (such as pneumatic lift models), and the seat can be raised or lowered by repeatedly pushing it up and down.

  2. Adjust step by step to a comfortable position
    When operating, pull the lever slowly and gently, moving a few centimeters at a time to avoid imbalance caused by rapid lifting or lowering. After adjusting to the desired position, return the lever to its original position to lock the height.

  • Raising the seat: Pull up the lever while maintaining body pressure, and the seat will rise slowly;
  • Lowering the seat: Keep your body weight slightly forward and gently press the lever to lower the seat.
    Note: Pneumatic chairs require "pumping" the lever (repeated pushing and pulling) to achieve continuous lifting and lowering.
  1. Adjust with a standing posture
    If adjusting while seated is restricted, stand in front of the chair and adjust the seat height so that the front of the seat is just below your kneecap. When you sit down, your feet should be flat on the ground, and your thighs should be parallel to the ground to avoid leg suspension or excessive bending.

  2. Match the height to the task

  • Computer operation: Adjust the seat so that your eyes are level with the top of the monitor. If the monitor height is fixed, prioritize adjusting the seat to match your line of sight;
  • Desk work: Keep your elbows level with the desk to avoid arm suspension or excessive elevation;
  • Prolonged sitting: Ensure your feet are naturally flat on the ground, with your knees bent at 90ยฐ to 110ยฐ to reduce lumbar pressure.
  1. Verify your body posture after adjustment
  • Lower limbs: Keep your feet flat on the ground, with your ankles relaxed and no need to tiptoe or cross your legs;
  • Torso: Keep your back against the chair back, with lumbar support and relaxed shoulders without shrugging;
  • Upper limbs: Let your arms hang naturally, with your elbows bent at about 90ยฐ and your wrists straight without suspension;
  • Head: Keep your line of sight level with the top of the screen, with your neck in a neutral position to avoid forward or backward extension.
  1. Additional adjustment suggestions
  • Armrest adjustment: If you need arm support, adjust the armrest height to be level with the desk; if not needed, lower or remove the armrests to avoid restricting movement;
  • Dynamic sitting posture: Adjust your sitting posture slightly (such as leaning forward, backward, or sideways) every 15 to 30 minutes to distribute body pressure;
  • Footrest assistance: If the chair is too high and cannot be adjusted, use an adjustable footrest to support your feet and keep your thighs parallel to the ground.

Tip: Long-term use of an ill-fitting office chair may lead to lumbar muscle strain or cervical spine problems. It is recommended to regularly check the chair's functions and maintain a correct sitting posture.
