Office Chair Height Adjustment

Admin October 09, 2026

There are several main methods for adjusting the height of an office chair:

Firstly, look for hand-operated controls. While seated on the chair, adjust the height by pulling up the corresponding control lever; some models may require turning a knob. For example, the C100 Premium office chair allows you to adjust the seat height by pushing the metal handle under the chair forward. For pneumatic models, you can pump the lever, which means repeatedly pushing the lever up and down to raise or lower the seat; on some models, pulling the lever up raises the seat, and pushing it down lowers the seat.

Secondly, use the components under the chair for adjustment. If there is a handle under the seat of the chair, lifting the handle upward causes the high-pressure gas inside the gas lift to compress and then rebound, raising the seat; to lower the chair, turn the handle upward and lift your hand while sitting down. If the swivel chair has a fixing screw at the bottom, you can first loosen the screw, adjust the height, and then fix it again. When there are two adjustment levers under the seat, one is for adjusting the up and down movement, and the other is for adjusting the left and right movement. While seated, lift the lever for up and down adjustment, and release it when you reach the desired height. If there are two handles under the chair, one can adjust the chair height, and the other can adjust the backrest angle. You can try to find out which handle adjusts the height and then operate it.

In addition, adjusting from a standing position is also an effective method. First, adjust the seat height of the chair until the front of the chair is just below your knees. Then sit down with your feet flat on the ground. This can initially determine a relatively appropriate height.

When adjusting the height of an office chair, keep the following points in mind: Adjust according to the height of the desk and the chair as well as your own height. When sitting on the office chair, your eyes should be level with the computer to ensure visual comfort and reduce eye strain. The height adjustment should be moderate. Avoid a height that is too low, which may cause you to sink into the chair and prevent your body from maintaining a good posture; a height that is too high may lead to eye strain, and at the same time, ensure that you can sit up straight and maintain a good sitting posture. If you encounter a chair that is difficult to adjust, it is advisable to replace it to avoid affecting your physical health and work efficiency due to chair adjustment issues.
