Office Chair Headrest Installation

Admin October 12, 2026

Office chair headrest installation usually refers to the installation of a headrest, and the method needs to be selected according to the type. The core steps include preparing accessories, positioning for installation, fixing connections, and adjusting and testing, as detailed below:

General Installation Process (Taking the model with a bracket as an example)

  1. Preparation: Check the accessories to ensure that the package contains the headrest body, installation bracket (if any), screws or buckles, wrenches, and other tools. Some tool-free models may only require buckles for fixation. Confirm compatibility by measuring the spacing of the pre-reserved installation holes at the top of the office chair backrest (commonly 8mm or 100mm). If there are no pre-reserved holes on the backrest, choose a hole-free buckle-type headrest.
  2. Installation Steps: Locate the installation holes, lay the office chair backrest flat, and clean the pre-reserved hole positions on both sides of the top with a soft cloth. Fix the bracket: if the headrest comes with an independent bracket, align and fix the bracket to the backrest holes with screws; if it is an integrated buckle, press it directly into the holes until fully embedded. Connect the headrest: align the buckles or screws of the headrest body with the bracket, press down or rotate the screws until secure. Some models can adjust the headrest height (usually ranging from 5 - 70cm) through adjustment knobs.

Installation Methods for Special Types

  1. Gaming Chair Headrest: Adjust the headrest to its highest position, find the soft leather-covered area at the bottom of the backrest, press inward to expose two 'small grips', and insert them into the corresponding slots on the backrest to complete the fixation.
  2. Hole-Free Headrest: Suitable for backrests without pre-reserved holes. Choose a headrest with a strong adhesive sticker or buckle clip. Clean the surface of the backrest to ensure it is free of oil or dust. Clamp the buckle tightly against the edge of the backrest, or peel off the protective film of the adhesive sticker and stick it on. Let it sit for 24 hours before use to ensure firm adhesion.

Other Installation Methods for Backrests Without Pre-Reserved Holes

  1. Drilling Installation Method: First, use a measuring tape to mark the drilling point at the center of the top of the backrest. Use an electric drill with the corresponding drill bit to drill slowly, being careful not to drill through the back of the backrest. After drilling, align the installation base of the headrest with the holes, fix it with the provided self-tapping screws, and then insert the headrest rod into the base and tighten it. It is recommended to wear goggles and gloves during operation.
  2. Adapter Bracket Installation Method: If you do not want to damage the chair structure, you can choose a clip-on or strap-on adapter bracket. First, fix the bracket to the top of the backrest, and then install the headrest on the bracket. This method does not require drilling, but its load-bearing capacity is relatively weaker and is not suitable for people with a large body weight.

Precautions

After installation, adjust the headrest up and down or back and forth to check for looseness or abnormal noises. The backward tilt angle of the headrest should conform to the natural curve of the cervical spine, with a recommended range of 15ยฐ - 65ยฐ, to avoid excessive forward or backward tilt causing neck fatigue. If screws are used for fixation, regularly check whether the screws are loose. For hole-free models, avoid frequent disassembly to prevent damage to the adhesive sticker or buckle. If you encounter missing accessories or mismatched holes, it is recommended to contact the manufacturer for compatible models or professional installation services.
