Homemade Office Chair Headrest
Admin October 10, 2026
Making an office chair headrest can be achieved through three methods: eco-friendly DIY floral, simple small headrest, and headrest with armrests. Here are the specific steps:

I. Eco-friendly DIY Floral Headrest
- Materials Preparation: Old clothes or scraps of fabric (two different patterns required), paper, needle and thread, iron.
- Making Steps:
- Cutting Fabric: Draw a circle with a diameter of about 15 centimeters on paper, place the template on the two types of fabric, and cut out 10 circular pieces of fabric from each.
- Processing Single Fabric Piece: Sew two pieces of fabric with their right sides facing each other (hand-sew if no machine is available), leaving a 1-centimeter seam unsewn; turn it right side out through the seam opening, adjust the fabric folds with your fingers to make the edges fold outward on both sides, forming a petal shape.
- Assembling Petals: Sew the 10 processed fabric pieces together one by one to form a petal shape; use a needle and thread to secure the center points of all the petals, and finally iron them flat.
- Combining Headrest: Sew the petal pad onto a pre-made round or square pillow to complete the making. Key Points: The fabric folding should be meticulous to ensure the petals are full in shape; pay attention to even stitching when assembling to avoid affecting the appearance.
II. Simple Small Headrest
- Materials Preparation: Unworn clothes, idle fabric, needle and thread.
- Making Steps:
- Folding Fabric: Fold the fabric in half, then overlap a third piece of fabric, press a 1-centimeter seam, and sew.
- Filling Inner Core: Turn the sewn fabric right side out, stuff it with old clothes or idle fabric as filling, adjust to a comfortable thickness, and then close the opening. Key Points: The seam should be firm to prevent the filling from leaking out; the filling can be made of soft clothes to enhance the comfort of the headrest.
III. Headrest with Armrests
- Materials Preparation: Fabric, cotton, zipper (optional), needle and thread, template (requires 15 A4 papers to be pieced together or drawn by yourself).
- Making Steps:
- Cutting Fabric:
- Front of headrest: Fold a piece of fabric in half and cut.
- Back of headrest: Fold a piece of fabric in half and cut, adding darts at the abdominal corners (fold and sew the fabric to fit the body curve).
- Armrest components: Including side trim, wide edge, edge strip, etc., which need to be cut according to the template, with the edge strip reserved with a length of 12 centimeters.
- Sewing Components:
- Sewing armrest side to back: With the arc facing up, sew the right sides together and then turn it to the back, secure the edge strip with stitching, and cut off the excess.
- Sewing armrest to front: Sew the two arcs with the right sides facing each other.
- Sewing darts on back: Sew the two darts, and then sew the front and back together with the right sides facing each other all around.
- Installing Zipper: If the cotton filling needs to be firm, place the zipper at the top; if there are no special requirements, it can be placed at the bottom. Sew the zipper first, and then sew the other positions.
- Filling Cotton: After sewing, trim the edges and corners, turn it right side out, stuff it with 3-4 jin of cotton, adjust it evenly, and then close the opening. Key Points: The sewing of darts should be precise to ensure the headrest fits the body; the installation position of the zipper affects the user experience and should be chosen according to needs.
