Office Chair Hardness Selection

Admin October 08, 2026

When choosing an office chair, it is advisable to opt for one with medium hardness, neither too soft nor too hard.

Drawbacks of Excessively Soft Office Chairs

Sitting on an excessively soft office chair for a long time may feel very comfortable in the short term, but it comes with numerous issues. When seated on a very soft chair, the buttocks sink in, causing the temperature in that area to rise. This local temperature increase can lead to poor blood circulation, affecting the blood supply to the buttock tissues, preventing the effective delivery of nutrients, and hindering the timely removal of metabolic waste. Additionally, a soft chair fails to provide sufficient support for the body, resulting in excessive local pressure on the buttocks. Prolonged exposure to this condition can irritate the buttock skin, potentially leading to problems such as boils, causing discomfort and posing health risks.

Drawbacks of Excessively Hard Office Chairs

Similarly, excessively hard office chairs are not suitable for prolonged use. Hard chairs do not conform well to the body's curves, failing to provide effective cushioning and support for various body parts. When seated on a hard chair for an extended period, the areas of the body in contact with the chair, especially the buttocks, tailbone, and lower back, experience significant pressure. This continuous pressure can cause discomfort and may even result in physical pain and injury. Long-term use of a hard chair can also affect posture, leading individuals to unconsciously adopt incorrect postures to alleviate discomfort, thereby increasing the burden on the spine and lower back and potentially causing spinal deformities and lower back pain.

Advantages of Medium-Hardness Office Chairs

A medium-hardness office chair is a more ideal choice. It effectively alleviates the discomfort associated with prolonged sitting, providing sufficient support for the body and helping to maintain proper posture. Correct posture reduces pressure on the spine and lower back, keeping the body's various parts in a natural and relaxed state, which is beneficial for preventing spinal diseases and lower back pain. Moreover, a medium-hardness chair does not create excessive local pressure on the buttocks, ensuring smooth blood circulation in that area and reducing the occurrence of skin problems.
