Office Chair Gravity

Admin October 08, 2026

The gravity technology of office chairs is mainly reflected in gravity self-adaptation and gravity self-locking, which achieve functional optimization by sensing or utilizing changes in gravity.

Gravity self-adaptation technology, represented by the "gravity self-adaptive back-chasing technology," has its core principle in automatically adjusting the backrest angle and support force through the elastic or mechanical structures built into the backrest, based on the pressure (i.e., the gravitational component) exerted by the user's back in a sitting position. For example, when the user leans back, the backrest tilts synchronously with the direction of gravity to maintain back contact; when the user stands up, the backrest automatically resets. This design requires no manual adjustment, dynamically adapting to different body types or sitting habits, enhancing comfort, and reducing fatigue from prolonged sitting.

Gravity self-locking technology triggers a locking mechanism through changes in gravity, with typical applications including two types:

  1. Gravity self-locking universal wheels: These feature an internal bevel mechanism design. When the office chair is stationary and bearing vertical weight (e.g., when the user sits down), the center-of-gravity pressure causes the bevel to engage, instantly locking the wheels; when the chair tilts or is subjected to a pushing force, the change in the direction of gravity releases the engagement, allowing the wheels to slide again. This structure requires no manual operation and has low requirements for floor flatness, making it suitable for scenarios requiring frequent movement but also the need for instant fixation (e.g., office swivel chairs).
  2. Universal spring-loaded gravity wheels: These detect whether the user is seated through gravity-sensing devices (such as springs or pressure sensors). When seated, gravity triggers the spring to lock the wheels; when the user stands up and gravity disappears, the spring releases, allowing the wheels to slide freely. Some models also include a braking function to further enhance safety.

Technical Advantages:

  • Humanized Experience: Gravity self-adaptation technology reduces manual adjustment steps, meeting ergonomic needs; gravity self-locking technology resolves the contradiction between "fixation and movement" of traditional wheels, improving usage efficiency.
  • Enhanced Safety: The self-locking function prevents the chair from sliding accidentally when unoccupied, avoiding collision risks.
  • Scene Adaptability: Gravity self-locking universal wheels adapt well to different floor types such as carpets and tiles, broadening the usage scope of office chairs.

These technologies achieve a dual upgrade in office chair functionality and user experience by cleverly utilizing the principles of gravity.
