Removing Glue Stains from Office Chairs
To remove glue stains from office chairs, choose an appropriate method based on the material and the severity of the adhesive. It is recommended to test on a small area first.

1. Alcohol Wiping Method
Alcohol is a common organic solvent that can dissolve most sticky substances. Dip a tissue or soft cloth in an appropriate amount of industrial alcohol (concentration โฅ 75%) and wipe repeatedly along the direction of the glue stain until the mark disappears. Suitable for solvent-resistant materials such as leather and plastic, but avoid unsealed wooden or fabric surfaces to prevent alcohol penetration that may cause discoloration or corrosion. After wiping, clean the residual alcohol with water to avoid long-term contact that may lead to material aging.
2. Acetone Treatment Method
Acetone has stronger solubility and is suitable for stubborn glue stains. Dip a cotton swab in a small amount of acetone (wear gloves to prevent corrosion) and apply it to the glue stain. Once the adhesive softens, wipe it off with a soft cloth. Limited to metal, glass, or hardened plastic materials. Do not use on leather, fabric, or painted surfaces, as it may cause surface dissolution or discoloration. After operation, immediately rinse off the residue with water and ventilate the area.
3. Hair Dryer Heating Method
Suitable for small areas of glue stains on heat-resistant materials (such as plastic and metal). Set the hair dryer to medium heat and hold it 10-15 centimeters away from the glue stain for 10-20 seconds. Once the adhesive softens, gently scrape it off with a plastic scraper or fingernail. Control the heating time and distance to avoid high temperatures causing material deformation or coating peeling, especially when handling heat-sensitive materials like PU leather.
4. Natural Solvent Method
- White Vinegar/Vinegar: Soak a cotton cloth in vinegar and cover the glue stain for 5-10 minutes. Once the adhesive swells, wipe along the edges. Suitable for smooth surfaces such as glass, ceramics, or some plastics, but less effective on fabric or rough materials.
- Essential Balm: Apply an appropriate amount of essential balm to a damp cloth and vigorously wipe large areas of glue stains. Its volatile components can dissolve sticky substances. Suitable for fabric or leather surfaces, but note that essential balm may leave green marks that need to be cleaned off with water afterward.
5. Physical Friction Method
- Eraser: For small areas of adhesive residue, rub repeatedly with an ordinary eraser. It may turn black initially but continue rubbing to remove the glue stain. Suitable for smooth, hard surfaces such as metal, glass, or plastic, but may scratch soft materials.
- Plastic Cloth/Scouring Pad: Dip in alcohol or acetone and vigorously wipe stubborn glue marks, using friction to peel off the adhesive. Control the force to avoid scratching the surface coating or leaving marks.
Precautions:
- Test on an inconspicuous area before operation to ensure no corrosion, discoloration, or deformation occurs before treating larger areas.
- After cleaning, promptly wipe off the residue with water or a neutral detergent to prevent solvent damage from long-term contact.
- Keep flammable substances like acetone and alcohol away from fire sources and ensure ventilation during operation.
