Office Chair Glue Removal
Glue removal from office chairs can be done using the following methods based on the type of glue and the material of the chair. Always test on an inconspicuous area first and take proper precautions during operation:

1. Heat Softening Method Suitable for hot-melt glues such as woodworking glue and all-purpose glue. Use a hairdryer or hot air gun to heat the glued area (control the temperature between 80ยฐC and 120ยฐC). Once the glue's stickiness decreases, slowly separate it using a flat pry bar or scraper. Note: Avoid high temperatures that may damage the paint or plastic parts. Hardwoods (such as mahogany and oak) work better, while thin-panel furniture requires careful operation to prevent breakage.
2. Solvent Penetration Method
- Acetone/Alcohol/Professional Glue Remover: Can dissolve most synthetic glues. Apply the solvent to the seam and let it sit for 10-15 minutes, then wipe away the residual glue with a cloth. Epoxy resin requires a dedicated stripping agent, and ventilation and protective gloves are necessary during operation.
- Alcohol Method: Use a cotton ball soaked in medical alcohol or white liquor to brush over the glue marks. Once softened, gently lift and remove them.
- Essential Balm Method: Apply a thick layer of essential balm to penetrate and then wipe it away, especially suitable for removing dried 502 glue.
- Vinegar Method: Soak the glue marks with vinegar and gently scrape with a small spatula or scraper. For thick glue marks, extend the soaking time.
- Banana Oil/Insulating Oil: Banana oil requires scrubbing with an old toothbrush until the glue softens and comes off; insulating oil (such as transformer oil) can quickly soften 502 glue.
3. Physical Separation Method For simply structured mortise-and-tenon glued parts, use a wooden mallet to strike the connection point horizontally to vibrate the stress point, and gradually pry it open with a wedge-shaped wooden block. Suitable Scenarios: Hardwood furniture; thin-panel furniture requires avoiding breakage risks.
4. Other Auxiliary Methods
- Hot Towel Method: Heat a wet towel and place it on the glue marks. Shallow glue marks are easier to tear off.
- Hot Water + Soap: Add mild detergent to hot water, soak a wet cloth, cover the glue surface, and let it sit for a few minutes. Once softened, wipe it away.
- Eraser: Suitable for small areas of glue spots; gently wipe to remove.
- Cooking Oil/Olive Oil: Apply and wipe with a cloth, using lubrication to soften the glue.
- Freezing Method: Place the glued part in the refrigerator to freeze. The glue may come off due to contraction.
- Hot Water Soaking: Small areas of 502 glue can be soaked in hot water; for larger areas, apply acetone and wait for 5-10 minutes.
Precautions:
- Wear gloves before operation to avoid solvent contact with the skin or eyes.
- Prioritize gentle methods (such as alcohol and hot towels), and reserve highly corrosive solvents (such as acetone and banana oil) for last resort.
- After cleaning, promptly wipe away residual solvents with clean water to prevent damage to the material.
