Office Chair Glue Recycling

Admin October 11, 2026

The recycling and treatment of adhesive materials in office chairs can refer to general adhesive recycling methods, mainly divided into physical recycling, chemical recycling, and energy recycling. However, there is currently a lack of specific information or services dedicated to the recycling of adhesives in office chairs.

Physical Recycling

Physical recycling involves regenerating waste adhesives through mechanical means, with core steps including washing, filtering, drying, and crushing. First, adhesive materials (such as rubber or plastic components) disassembled from office chairs are cleaned to remove surface impurities. Subsequently, adhesive particles of different sizes are separated through filtration, followed by drying to reduce moisture content. Finally, they are crushed into uniform waste adhesive particles. These particles can be directly used as recycled raw materials for manufacturing low-demand rubber products (such as gaskets and seals) or plastic products (such as trash cans and pallets). This method is simple to operate and has low costs, but the performance of the recycled adhesive may decline due to molecular chain breakage, making it suitable for scenarios with low material strength requirements.

Chemical Recycling

Chemical recycling decomposes the molecular structure of adhesive materials through chemical reactions to achieve raw material regeneration. A typical process involves dissolving adhesive waste in specific solvents (such as organic solvents or acid-base solutions), removing impurities through heating and filtration, and then regenerating recycled adhesive through crystallization or polymerization reactions. For example, thermoplastic rubber can be redissolved in solvents and re-plasticized to restore some of its physical properties. Some sulfur-containing rubbers can be desulfurized to produce recycled rubber for tire manufacturing. This method can recover high-purity raw materials, but the process is complex, energy-intensive, and may produce harmful by-products, requiring strict environmental protection measures.

Energy Recycling

Energy recycling obtains energy by burning adhesive materials and is suitable for waste adhesives that cannot be recycled through the first two methods. Adhesive components in office chairs (such as polyurethane foam and rubber wheels) decompose into carbon dioxide and water when burned at high temperatures, releasing heat energy that can be used for power generation or heating. Although this method can reduce waste volume, the combustion process may produce pollutants such as dioxins, requiring efficient exhaust gas treatment equipment. Additionally, additives in the materials (such as flame retardants) may affect combustion efficiency.

It should be noted that the practical application of adhesive recycling in office chairs requires selecting appropriate methods based on the material type (such as natural rubber, synthetic rubber, or thermoplastic elastomer) and pollution level. Currently, the industry lacks specific recycling standards or services for adhesives in office chairs. It is recommended to prioritize contacting professional recycling agencies or referring to general adhesive recycling processes for treatment.
