General Requirements for Office Chairs

Admin October 22, 2026

The general requirements for office chairs mainly include three aspects: specifications, performance, and configuration standards.

Specifications: Office chairs have a clearly defined standard height range, typically between 40 and 50 centimeters. This height range is determined through ergonomic research and can accommodate the heights and usage habits of most people. It ensures that when seated, users can place their feet flat on the ground naturally, with their knees and hips roughly level, thereby reducing pressure on the legs and waist and enhancing comfort.

Performance: Office chairs need to conform to ergonomic principles. The seat depth should be sufficient to support the entire buttocks, providing adequate support to prevent the buttocks from hanging in the air due to an overly shallow seat depth, which would increase the burden on the waist. The seat width should be moderate, allowing users to move their bodies freely to meet the needs of different sitting postures and facilitating blood circulation in the body. The design of the backrest is also crucial; it should fit snugly against the lower back, providing good support to reduce the pressure on the waist from prolonged sitting and preventing waist diseases. In addition, some regions have special requirements for the materials used in office chairs, necessitating the use of fire-resistant and moisture-resistant materials. Fire-resistant materials can, to a certain extent, reduce the danger in the event of a fire, safeguarding the lives of users. Moisture-resistant materials can prevent the office chair from molding and deforming in humid environments, extending its service life.

Configuration Standards: According to the general standards of central government agencies, the price of office chairs for department-level officials should not exceed 1,500 yuan, and for section-level and below officials, it should not exceed 800 yuan, with a minimum service life of 15 years for both. When configuring office furniture, full consideration should be given to the office layout, adhering to the requirements of simplicity and practicality. Luxury furniture should not be configured, nor should precious woods be used. This standard aims to reasonably control office costs, avoid waste, and create a simple and efficient office environment.
