Office Chair GB
There are three main GB standards related to office chairs, with their core contents and scopes of application as follows:

1. ใOffice Furniture - Office Chairs - Dimensional Measurement Methodsใ (GB/T 38733-2020) This standard focuses on the standardization of dimensional measurements for office chairs, specifying measurement methods for key dimensions such as chair height, seat depth, seat width, and backrest height. It provides a unified basis for production, quality inspection, and design processes. Released on April 28, 2020, and officially implemented on November 1 of the same year, it was jointly drafted by 12 institutions, including Zhejiang Sunon Furniture Manufacturing Co., Ltd. and the Shanghai Institute of Quality Inspection and Technical Research, reflecting the collaborative efforts of the industry. By quantifying dimensional parameters, the standard ensures that office chairs meet ergonomic requirements and enhance user comfort.
2. ใOffice Furniture - Reading Tables, Chairs, and Stoolsใ (GB/T 14531-2017) This standard applies to reading chairs in public places such as libraries and archives, covering quality requirements, test methods, and packaging and storage specifications. After its implementation on July 1, 2018, it initiated a revision in March 2025 and entered the review stage in May 2026, reflecting its adaptive adjustments in response to evolving usage scenarios. The standard introduces new test methods for impact resistance and scratch resistance, strengthening the durability and safety of furniture. It is also supervised by the China National Light Industry Council, ensuring its authority and industry guidance.
3. The Uniqueness of the Group Standard ใMidday Rest Office Chairsใ (T/CNFA XX-2026) Although its numbering format is similar to that of GB standards, this standard is a group standard issued by the China Furniture Association on July 22, 2026. It comprehensively regulates the terminology, classification, technical requirements, and test methods for midday rest office chairs, specifying that they are applicable to adults with a height below 2 meters and a weight less than 150 kilograms. The standard fills the regulatory gap for office chairs in midday rest scenarios, promoting the development of products towards functionality and segmentation.
Summary: Among the above standards, GB/T 38733-2020 and GB/T 14531-2017 are national recommended standards that regulate office chairs from the perspectives of dimensional measurement and public place usage, respectively. The group standard T/CNFA XX-2026 proposes specific requirements for midday rest scenarios. Together, they construct a comprehensive standard system for office chairs, covering basic dimensions to specific functions, providing a scientific basis for industry production, quality inspection, and consumer selection.
