Office Chair Gas Spring Grade

Admin October 10, 2026

The international standard grades for office chair gas springs (pneumatic rods) are divided into four levels, with higher numbers indicating greater safety. Here are the specific grade divisions and applicable scenarios:

Grade 1 Gas Spring: The lowest safety level, largely phased out of the market. Its pressure test standards are relatively low, failing to meet long-term usage requirements and posing significant safety risks, such as the potential for the gas spring to burst or lose control during height adjustment. Due to inadequate safety performance, such gas springs are rarely used in modern office chair production and are only found in a very small number of low-end or non-compliant products.

Grade 2 Gas Spring: Suitable for entry-level or temporary use scenarios. Its safety is improved compared to Grade 1, but its load-bearing capacity and durability remain limited, typically only meeting the needs of lightweight users or short-term use. For example, scenarios such as temporary home office work or student self-study may consider such gas springs, but prolonged and frequent use should be avoided to reduce safety risks.

Grade 3 Gas Spring: The mainstream choice in the market, achieving a balance between safety, load-bearing capacity, and price. Its pressure test standards are stringent, capable of supporting the weight of most users (typically up to 100-120kg), and it offers high durability, making it suitable for high-frequency use scenarios such as daily office work or study. Grade 3 gas springs are moderately priced and offer excellent value for money, making them the preferred choice for the vast majority of users.

Grade 4 Gas Spring: The highest safety level, suitable for scenarios with extreme safety requirements. Its pressure test standards far exceed those of other grades, capable of withstanding higher loads (typically supporting over 120kg), and it features superior material strength and manufacturing processes, virtually eliminating the risk of bursting or loss of control. Grade 4 gas springs are commonly found in high-end office chairs, medical equipment, or special industrial scenarios, but they come at a relatively higher price, making them suitable for users with sufficient budgets and strict safety performance requirements.

Purchase Recommendations: Ordinary users should prioritize Grade 3 gas springs, balancing safety and economy; if the user is heavier or uses the chair extremely frequently, Grade 4 gas springs may be considered; Grade 1 and Grade 2 gas springs should be avoided due to their significant safety risks. When purchasing, users can confirm the gas spring grade by checking the product manual or consulting the merchant, and choose reputable brands to ensure quality.
