Office Chair Gas Rod Removal
Admin October 17, 2026
The methods for removing the gas rod (iron rod) from an office chair vary depending on the type of chair, mainly including regular computer chairs, vibration-assisted removal, and gaming chairs. Details are as follows:

Removing the Gas Rod from a Regular Computer Chair
- Flip the Chair: Steadily flip the chair over so that it faces the ceiling and place it on a stable surface. This facilitates subsequent operations and prevents the chair from wobbling or tipping over during removal.
- Remove the Seat Cushion: Locate the screws at the connection between the seat cushion and the chair base. Use appropriate tools, such as a wrench or screwdriver, to remove the screws. After removing the screws, gently lift the seat cushion to detach it from the chair.
- Detach the Gas Cylinder: After removing the seat cushion, you can see the connection between the gas cylinder and the chair base, usually a circular interface. Use pliers or an Allen wrench to remove the securing screws, then pull down the gas cylinder with force. During this process, ensure an even force to avoid damaging the gas cylinder or causing it to pop out and injure someone.
Removing the Gas Rod Using Vibration
- Lay the Chair on Its Side: Lay the chair on its side with a person facing it. Press down firmly on the lift handle with the left hand to secure the lifting part of the chair and prevent it from moving during hammering.
- Hammer the Steel Base Support: Use the right hand to hammer the steel base support, which is the contact point between the gas rod and the base support. The vibration generated by hammering will loosen the connection between the gas cylinder and the base.
- Handle Stubborn Gas Rods: If the gas rod is difficult to remove, you can remove the base support and then hammer the top of the gas rod. Alternatively, raise the gas rod to its highest position and hammer around the base of the lift rod to further loosen the gas rod.
Removing the Gas Rod from a Gaming Chair
- Lay the Chair Down: Steadily lay the gaming chair down to facilitate subsequent removal operations.
- Remove the Bottom Screws: Use tools to remove all the screws at the bottom, separating the base from the seat. When removing the screws, be sure to keep them safe to avoid losing them.
- Take Out the Gas Rod: Use a hammer to strike the iron ring at the bottom end of the gas rod where it meets the footrest, or use pipe wrenches to grip the gas rod and rotate it in one direction to loosen and remove it.
