Office Chair Gas Lift Height

Admin October 10, 2026

The adjustable height range of an office chair's gas lift is typically from 360 to 480 millimeters, depending on the grade of the gas lift and the user's height requirements. Here are the details:

1. Principle and Standard Range of Gas Lift Height Adjustment
Office chairs achieve height adjustment through the movement of the piston rod inside the internal cylinder, and the adjustable height range is directly related to the grade of the gas lift. According to the national standard GB/T 3976-2014, the seat height of adult office chairs should be within the range of 40 to 50 centimeters (400-500 millimeters). GB3326-1997 further specifies that the seat height should be between 400 and 440 millimeters, while mainstream products can achieve free adjustment from 360 to 480 millimeters through optimized design, covering the needs of users with different body types.

2. Gas Lift Grades and Suitable User Groups
The grade of the gas lift is the core factor determining the adjustable height:

  • Grade 2 Gas Lift: With a length of 200-250 millimeters and a load capacity of 80-100 kilograms, it is suitable for users with a height not exceeding 170 centimeters. Its adjustable range is usually from 360 to 420 millimeters, meeting the basic needs of small to medium-sized users.
  • Grade 3 Gas Lift: With a length of 270-320 millimeters and a load capacity of 100-150 kilograms, it is suitable for users with a height exceeding 170 centimeters. The adjustable range can reach from 420 to 480 millimeters, ensuring a comfortable sitting posture with the thighs parallel to the ground and the elbows bent at 90 degrees for tall users.
  • Grade 4 Gas Lift: Used in some high-end products, it can bear a load of up to 300 kilograms and has a wider adjustable range, suitable for special body types or high-load usage scenarios.

3. Specific Recommendations for Height and Adjustable Height
To ensure a healthy sitting posture, it is necessary to adjust the seat height according to the user's height:

  • Users under 160 centimeters: It is recommended to adjust the seat to the lowest height of 360 millimeters to avoid concentrated pressure on the legs due to the feet hanging in the air.
  • Users between 160 and 170 centimeters: A height of 42-45 centimeters is suitable, ensuring that the soles of the feet are flat on the ground and the knees are slightly bent.
  • Users between 170 and 180 centimeters: A height of 45-47 centimeters is recommended, keeping the thighs parallel to the ground and the elbows naturally bent at 90 degrees.
  • Users above 180 centimeters: It needs to be adjusted to close to 480 millimeters, and the height difference between the desk and the chair should be controlled within 28-32 centimeters to avoid shrugging or bending over.

4. Adjustment Precautions
When adjusting, keep the body naturally relaxed and avoid excessive force or rapid lifting and lowering, which may damage the gas lift. If the seat height cannot meet the requirements, check whether the grade of the gas lift matches the user's height or use a footrest for auxiliary adjustment. After long-term use, it is recommended to regularly check the sealing of the gas lift to prevent air leakage from affecting the adjustment function.
