Office Chair Gas Cylinder

Admin October 12, 2026

The office chair gas cylinder is a crucial component for adjusting height, available in two grades: Grade 1 and Grade 3, with Grade 3 offering superior performance but having potential safety standard issues.

Classification and Performance Differences

Office chair gas cylinders are classified into Grade 1 and Grade 3. Grade 1 gas cylinders have a simple structure with only one pneumatic chamber, allowing for direct but less precise height adjustment. Over time, they may develop issues such as squeaking noises, height adjustment jams, and have weaker load-bearing capacity. Grade 3 gas cylinders, on the other hand, feature three chambers and are equipped with precision valves, ensuring a stable and smooth adjustment process. They have stronger load-bearing capacity, capable of supporting over 120 kilograms, and offer higher safety levels, typically protected by a 2-millimeter-thick explosion-proof steel plate at the bottom.

Price and Purchase Recommendations

Due to their superior performance, Grade 3 gas cylinders are priced higher. It is recommended to choose products priced above 200 yuan. When purchasing, look for the Class3 mark, which indicates compliance with Grade 3 gas cylinder standards. After receiving the product, first test the height adjustment function for smoothness, then check if the thickness of the base steel plate meets the standard (at least 2 millimeters) to ensure safety and durability.

Standards and Safety Concerns

The current "Office Chair" standard has deficiencies regarding gas cylinders. Gas cylinder testing is only a contractual item, meaning manufacturers are not required to conduct tests unless explicitly agreed upon by consumers during ordering, and the test results do not include gas cylinder items. Additionally, the standard only references the durability requirements from the "Technical Conditions for Gas Springs" issued in 1996, lacking specific regulations for design and production processes. This results in a blind spot in standards for the pneumatic height adjustment mechanism of domestic office chairs, potentially leaving safety hazards. For example, some low-priced products may use inferior materials or simplified structures, passing basic durability tests but still posing a risk of bursting during long-term use.

Summary

Grade 3 gas cylinders significantly outperform Grade 1 in terms of performance and safety, but consumers should be vigilant about standard loopholes. When purchasing, prioritize products with the Class3 mark and reasonable prices, and actively inspect the quality of key components to reduce usage risks.
