Installation of Gas Cylinder in Office Chairs
The installation of a gas cylinder in office chairs is to achieve the function of seat height adjustment, which is based on air pressure regulation. However, there are certain safety risks that require attention and prevention.

Function and Principle of the Gas Cylinder
The gas cylinder in an office chair is typically installed beneath the chair and is a completely sealed container filled with high-purity nitrogen or other inert gases. The gas cylinder is connected to the seat through a pneumatic height adjustment system, with its core component being the piston rod inside the cylinder. When the user operates the adjustment handle (locking mechanism), the piston rod moves up and down under the pressure of the gas inside the cylinder, thereby adjusting the height of the seat. This design utilizes the characteristics of gas compression and release, achieving height adjustment by changing the air pressure difference between the upper and lower parts of the cylinder, offering the advantages of simple operation and a wide adjustment range.
Safety Risks of the Gas Cylinder
The safety of the gas cylinder depends on the quality of materials and usage conditions. If the gas cylinder has the following issues, it may pose an explosion risk:
- Insufficient Material Strength: If the wall thickness or material of the gas cylinder does not meet standards, it may not be able to withstand the internal high pressure and could rupture under frequent use or external impact.
- Poor Sealing: If the interface of the gas cylinder or the piston seal ring ages or is damaged, it can lead to gas leakage, causing an imbalance in internal pressure and, in extreme cases, rapid expansion.
- Substandard Gas Purity: If the gas cylinder is filled with non-inert gases (such as oxygen) or contains excessive impurities, it may lead to abnormal pressure increases due to unstable chemical properties (such as oxidation reactions).
- Improper Use: Long-term exposure to high-temperature environments (such as direct sunlight or near heating sources) can accelerate gas expansion; frequent height adjustments may wear out the internal mechanical structure of the gas cylinder, increasing the risk of leakage.
Safety Usage Recommendations
To reduce risks, users should pay attention to the following:
- Purchase Genuine Products: Prioritize office chairs that have passed national safety certifications (such as GB/T standards) and avoid buying unbranded products.
- Avoid Frequent Adjustments: Reduce unnecessary height adjustments to extend the lifespan of the gas cylinder.
- Regular Inspection and Maintenance: Check the appearance of the gas cylinder (such as for cracks or deformation) and the flexibility of the adjustment handle every six months. If any abnormalities are found, stop using it immediately and contact after-sales service.
- Pay Attention to Usage Environment: Keep the office chair away from high-temperature sources and avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.
