Office Chair Gas Cylinder

Admin October 08, 2026

The office chair gas cylinder, also known as a gas spring, is the core component that enables height adjustment in pneumatic lifting chairs. It controls the lifting and lowering through gas flow, and poor-quality products pose an explosion risk, so safety standards must be considered when purchasing.

Working Principle and Structure of Gas Springs

Gas springs are typically filled with high-purity nitrogen or other inert gases. The lifting and lowering functions are achieved by adjusting the gas valve to control gas flow. When the user lifts the lifting lever, gas flows upward from the lower part of the gas spring, pushing the seat upward. When sitting down, the gas is compressed and flows back to the lower part, lowering the seat. This process relies on the airtightness and gas purity inside the gas spring. If there is gas leakage or insufficient purity, lifting and lowering may fail or become jerky.

Safety Hazards of Poor-Quality Gas Springs

Poor-quality gas springs may have the following issues:

  1. Thin tube walls: Unable to withstand high internal pressure, they are prone to rupture under frequent lifting and lowering or high-temperature conditions.
  2. Insufficient gas purity: Using compressed air instead of inert gases, which have unstable chemical properties and are prone to explosion.
  3. Lack of explosion-proof design: No explosion-proof steel plate is installed or the plate thickness is insufficient (needs to be โ‰ฅ2 mm), so it cannot block flying debris in the event of an explosion.
Historically, explosion accidents caused by gas spring quality issues occurred in Zhoushan, Zhejiang in 2007 and Jiaozhou, Shandong in 2009, resulting in serious injuries to users and highlighting the dangers of poor-quality products.

Safety Recommendations for Purchase and Use

To ensure safety, the following principles should be followed:

  1. Choose products from reputable manufacturers: Give priority to purchasing brands that have passed safety certifications and avoid low-priced, off-brand products or those without steel stamp markings.
  2. Check the smoothness of lifting and lowering: High-quality gas springs should lift and lower smoothly without jerking or abnormal noises.
  3. Confirm the presence of an explosion-proof steel plate: An explosion-proof steel plate with a thickness of โ‰ฅ2 mm must be installed between the seat cushion and the gas spring to block explosion debris.
  4. Avoid extreme environments: Keep away from high temperatures (such as direct sunlight) or frequent lifting and lowering scenarios to reduce the load on the gas spring.
High-quality gas springs can typically withstand 120,000 lifting and lowering cycles and have a service life of eight years without gas leakage, making them safer and more reliable for long-term use.
