Office Chair Gap Too Large
If the gap in an office chair is too large, it can be addressed by installing a backrest cushion, filling it with sponge blocks, inspecting and maintaining the frame, placing a round rug behind the chair, or using clothing to fill the gap.

Install a backrest cushion: For some chairs, the gap issue can be resolved by adding a thick backrest cushion. The cushion not only fills the gap but also enhances comfort. When choosing one, prioritize styles with special designs or non-slip fabrics to prevent the cushion from shifting during use.
Insert sponge blocks into the gap: If there is a noticeable gap at the back of the chair, cut the sponge into a wedge shape, insert it into the gap, and adjust its position to fit. For certain types of chairs, using foam pads or other soft filling materials can effectively reduce discomfort in the back and neck. When filling, pay attention to the material density to avoid overly hard or soft materials that may affect support.
Inspect the frame for looseness and maintain it promptly: If the gap is caused by loose chair structure (such as loose adjustment rod screws, failed spring retention, or excessive clearance in the gas lift rod), identify the specific loose location. For example, use a Phillips screwdriver to tighten the adjustment rod screws, use needle-nose pliers to re-hook the slipped spring into the slot, or rotate the gas lift rod adjustment knob counterclockwise to increase support. If you don't have professional tools, you can temporarily adopt emergency measures: cut a bicycle inner tube into strips and wrap them around the joint between the chair back and the base to increase friction, or use rubber bands to tie the movable joints of the gas lift rod to limit the swing range.
Place a round rug behind the chair: A rug can hide the space behind the chair, making the overall area look more complete and comfortable. When choosing one, ensure the rug size matches the chair to avoid an overly large or small size that affects the visual effect. It is recommended to choose short-pile or flat-weave rugs for easy cleaning and less dirt accumulation.
Use clothing to fill the gap: If you need a quick solution and have no other tools, fold the clothing you are carrying into strips and insert them into the gap. This method is simple to operate, but note that the clothing material should be soft and not easily deformed to avoid affecting the user experience.
