Full Cleaning of Office Chairs

Admin October 16, 2026

The comprehensive cleaning of office chairs should be carried out in two parts: the casters and the chair body, along with long-term maintenance measures. The specific methods are as follows:

I. Caster Cleaning

  1. Hair Entanglement Handling

    • If the casters are entangled with hair or debris, use a very small pair of scissors to cut along the direction of entanglement, or adopt the 3-step disassembly cleaning method: remove the rollers from the chair legs, use tweezers to extract internal hair and debris, ensuring no residue remains.
    • Pay attention to the bearing structure during disassembly to avoid damaging parts through violent operations.
  2. Dirt Cleaning

    • Surface Cleaning: Wrap the wheels with a damp and air-dried face towel, secure it with a rubber band, and move the chair back and forth to let friction remove dirt; or disassemble the rollers and use an old toothbrush dipped in neutral detergent to scrub the surface and bearing gaps, rinse with water, and dry thoroughly.
    • Stubborn Stains: If dirt is tightly adhered, first use a slightly damp cotton swab dipped in a small amount of alcohol to wipe, then proceed with the above steps.
  3. Lubrication Maintenance

    • After cleaning, apply 1-2 drops of special lubricant (such as sewing machine oil or WD-40) to the bearings, rotate the wheels to evenly distribute the oil, and reduce jamming.
    • Avoid using cooking oil or highly viscous lubricants to prevent dust attraction.

II. Chair Body Cleaning

  1. Correct Wiping Order

    • Clean each part from the backrest, seat cushion, armrests to the chair legs in a top-down order to avoid repeated contamination.
    • Use a slightly damp cloth that does not drip water (such as a microfiber cloth), and immediately absorb moisture with a dry cloth after wiping to prevent water stains or material deformation due to moisture.
  2. Deep Cleaning Process

    • Vacuuming: First, use a vacuum cleaner (equipped with a soft brush head) to thoroughly remove surface dust and debris from gaps, paying special attention to the folds of fabric backrests and seat cushions.
    • Foaming: Spray a professional foam cleaner (such as a product specifically for fabric or leather), let it sit for 5-10 minutes to allow the cleaner to penetrate the fibers and decompose stains.
    • High-Temperature Treatment: Use a steam cleaner or garment steamer (maintaining a distance of 10-15cm) to disinfect the chair body with high temperature, killing bacteria and accelerating drying.

III. Long-Term Maintenance Recommendations

  1. Caster Maintenance: Clean the casters once a month and regularly lubricate the bearings; avoid placing heavy objects (such as suitcases) on the casters to prevent bearing deformation.
  2. Stain Prevention Measures: Wrap the bottom of the casters with invisible tape to reduce the adhesion of ground dirt and lower the cleaning frequency.
  3. Daily Protection: Avoid direct sunlight or humid environments to prevent material aging of the chair body; if the chair has a removable cover, regularly remove and wash it, and dry it thoroughly.

By systematically cleaning and regularly maintaining, you can extend the lifespan of office chairs and maintain a hygienic environment.
