Office Chair Frame Repair

Admin October 16, 2026

Office chair frame repair requires selecting appropriate methods based on the material and type of damage. Common repair steps are as follows:

I. Metal Frame Repair

  1. Cracked Weld Points
First, clean the rust at the cracked area (using an angle grinder) to ensure the metal surface is free of oxidation. Then, use spot welding for reinforcement, with each welding session lasting โ‰ค3 seconds to avoid localized overheating and metal embrittlement. After welding, cool to room temperature, apply anti-rust paint, and let it stand for 24 hours to ensure full curing of the paint layer.

  2. Bent Steel Bars
For minor deformations (error โ‰ค2mm), use a hydraulic press to slowly reset, maintaining even force during operation. For severe deformations (error >2mm), cut off the damaged section, replace it with a new steel bar, and use a sleeve (with an inner diameter matching the steel bar diameter) combined with epoxy resin adhesive (tensile strength โ‰ฅ30MPa) for fixation. The curing time is 48 hours (at 25ยฐC).

  3. Loose Screws
Check if the screws connecting the frame are stripped. Tighten them with a screwdriver to an appropriate torque (avoid excessive force that could damage the threads). It is recommended to check the tightness of the screws monthly with a torque wrench (torque range 0.5-0.8Nยทm).

II. Reinforcement and Maintenance

  1. Structural Reinforcement
Add L-shaped steel plates (thickness โ‰ฅ2mm) at load-bearing nodes (such as the connection between the chair back and seat) and fix them with M6 bolts to enhance local impact resistance. Attach rubber pads (hardness 70 Shore A) to the contact surface between the chair legs and the ground to reduce friction noise and prevent direct metal wear on the ground.

  2. Rust Prevention
For rusted areas, first sand the metal to a shine, then spray zinc-rich primer (thickness 80ฮผm) to form a cathodic protection layer. After the primer dries, apply a topcoat. In humid areas, perform a comprehensive rust prevention treatment every six months; in dry areas, do it annually, focusing on screw holes and weld points.

III. Special Material Repair

  • Rosewood Frame: For broken parts, use woodworking glue to bond firmly, drill holes, and completely hide the nails in the wood (to avoid affecting aesthetics). For cracks, fill them with a mixture of 502 glue and sawdust, sand them smooth after the glue cures, and finally spray paint to restore the original appearance.

Precautions:

  • Wear an EN175 standard protective face shield during welding operations to prevent eye damage from intense light and splatter.
  • If the overall deformation of the frame exceeds 15ยฐ (according to GB/T 3324-2017 standard), repair may affect load-bearing safety, and it is recommended to replace the chair with a new one.
  • The curing of epoxy resin adhesive requires a stable ambient temperature; extend the curing time in low-temperature environments.
