Office Chair Frame Damage

Admin October 11, 2026

The handling of office chair frame damage should be comprehensively judged based on the extent of damage, material, and responsibility attribution, as detailed below:

I. Handling Based on the Extent of Damage

  1. Minor Damage
If the damage manifests as loose screws, split or slightly broken tenons, the repair method should be selected according to the material:
  • Wooden or Plastic Chairs: Use wood glue or strong adhesive to bond the broken parts, and secure them with screws or metal clamps; if components are loose, add wooden wedges or shims for reinforcement. For example, when the tenon of a chair leg is split, clean the gap, apply glue, and then secure it with a metal clamp until the glue dries.
  • Metal Chairs: The broken parts can be welded for repair. After welding, the surface should be sanded and painted for rust prevention; if only screws are loose, simply tighten them. For example, when the crossbeam of the chair frame is broken, professional welding and touch-up painting are required to restore strength.
  1. Severe Damage
If the main load-bearing structure (such as chair legs or crossbeams) is broken, or there is extensive damage, the repair cost should be evaluated:
  • If replacement parts are hard to find (such as custom metal parts), structural stability cannot be restored, or the repair cost exceeds the value of the chair (for example, complex repairs costing more than 50 yuan), it is advisable to abandon repairs and replace the chair with a new one.
  • For example, a plastic chair frame with multiple breaks that cannot be bonded, or a metal chair frame severely deformed causing a shift in the center of gravity, both fall into the category of irreparable damage.

II. Repair Cost Reference

  • Simple Repairs (such as loose screws, local bonding): The cost is approximately 10-20 yuan, suitable for plastic chairs or minor wooden damage.
  • Complex Repairs (such as frame breaks, welding repairs): The cost may reach 30-50 yuan or even higher. Repair costs for metal chairs typically range from 15-40 yuan, while plastic chairs, due to their ease of repair, usually cost less than 10 yuan.

III. Responsibility Division and Handling

  • Quality Issues or Natural Wear and Tear: If the damage is caused by design defects, material aging, or long-term use of the chair itself, the employer is responsible for free replacement or repair.
  • Intentional or Gross Negligence by Personnel: If the damage is caused by intentional destruction (such as smashing) or improper operation (such as overloading) by staff, the employer needs to bear the repair costs initially and may subsequently seek reimbursement from the responsible party.
  • Third-Party Fault: If the damage is caused by improper transportation by the supplier or quality issues with replacement parts, the employer should negotiate compensation with the supplier and request free replacement or repair.

Tip: Before handling, it is necessary to first clarify the cause of damage and the responsible party. Minor damage can be repaired by oneself or by contacting logistics personnel; in cases of severe damage or disputes over responsibility, it is advisable to retain evidence (such as photos) and contact the management department for coordination and resolution.
