Office Chair Forward Tilt Repair

Admin October 13, 2026

The repair of an office chair's forward tilt should be carried out based on the specific cause. Here are common causes and repair methods:

I. Adjustment Component Issues

  1. Bottom Plate Installed Backwards If the forward-tilt adjustment lever is located on the left side of the seat bottom plate (when sitting upright), it indicates that the bottom plate is installed incorrectly. Repair Steps: Turn the chair upside down, unscrew the screws connecting the chassis to the seat cushion, rotate the bottom plate 180 degrees, and reinstall it so that the adjustment lever is on the right side.
  2. Gas Cylinder Malfunction Unstable internal pressure or damage to the gas cylinder can cause the front end of the seat cushion to sink. Repair Steps: The gas cylinder needs to be replaced. It is recommended to contact the manufacturer for the model number to order matching parts and avoid disassembling it yourself to prevent safety hazards.
  3. Loose Chassis Screws Loose chassis screws can cause the seat cushion to lose balance. Repair Steps: Use a screwdriver to tighten all loose screws, paying attention to applying moderate force to avoid stripping the threads or cracking the wood due to excessive force.

II. Structural Issues

  1. Uneven or Damaged Casters Bent or deformed casters or an uneven floor can cause the chair to tilt. Repair Steps:
    • Check if each caster is in contact with the ground. Turn the chair upside down to observe if any casters are damaged.
    • If the casters are damaged, purchase matching new casters (it is recommended to replace the entire set). When removing the old casters, a flat-head screwdriver can be used for assistance. When installing the new casters, apply lubricant (such as WD-40) to the base socket and gently tap them in completely with a rubber mallet.
  2. Damaged Seat Plate If the chair still tilts after replacing the casters, check if the seat plate (the square steel plate at the bottom of the seat) is deformed or loose. Repair Steps: Place the chair on its side and check if the connection between the seat plate and the cylindrical column is secure. If necessary, contact the manufacturer to replace the seat plate.

III. Usage Habit Issues

  1. Improper Adjustment Excessive backward tilt or a seat height that is too low can cause the body to lean forward. Repair Steps:
    • Adjust the seat height so that the knees and hips form a 90-degree angle and the feet are flat on the ground.
    • Adjust the backward tilt angle by pulling the rocking/forward-tilt adjustment lever under the seat to match the backward tilt angle with the body's natural angle.
  2. Poor Sitting Posture Long-term habitual forward leaning can exacerbate the problem. Repair Suggestion: Keep your back straight, avoid actively leaning forward, and if necessary, add a seat cushion to the chair to increase the height.

If complex structures are involved or the gas cylinder needs to be replaced, it is recommended to contact professional repair personnel or the manufacturer for handling to avoid secondary damage caused by improper operation.
