Formaldehyde Removal from Office Chairs
Measures for removing formaldehyde from office chairs include selecting eco-friendly materials, using formaldehyde removal products, and employing auxiliary methods.

Firstly, selecting eco-friendly materials and processes is key to preventing formaldehyde overexposure. The formaldehyde concentration in office chairs primarily depends on the environmental protection grade and processing of the production materials. Qualified office chairs that comply with relevant Chinese standards, such as the "Classification of Formaldehyde Emission from Wood-Based Panels and Their Products" (GB/T 39600-2021), use eco-friendly panels like E1 grade (โค0.124mg/mยณ) or ENF grade, with well-executed edge sealing, ensuring that formaldehyde emissions are typically controlled within safe limits. When purchasing, prioritize products that have passed national environmental protection certifications and check the inspection reports to ensure the materials meet the standards.
Secondly, using formaldehyde removal products can specifically address formaldehyde pollution. For office chairs that have already been purchased and found to have excessive formaldehyde levels upon testing, long-term purification products can be selected. For example, first use phytoncid to penetrate deep into the panel to remove odors and formaldehyde emitted by the panel, then use photocatalyst without light for enhanced spraying inside the panel to further remove formaldehyde volatilized from within. When spraying, carefully apply to the inside, outer surface, back panel, bottom, and material joints of the panel, ensuring uniform atomization and coverage over the entire surface of the base material. After the product has completely dried, the phytoncid can penetrate into the panel for treatment, and the photocatalyst without light can adhere to the base surface for long-lasting purification. If the furniture's edge sealing is poor, leading to significant formaldehyde volatilization, increase the dosage as needed and use a spray gun for multiple applications.
Additionally, other auxiliary methods can also help reduce formaldehyde concentration. In the plant absorption method, plants such as cacti, spider plants, and aloe vera can absorb formaldehyde, but they only play a supplementary role, and excessive formaldehyde in the air may cause the plants to die. Activated carbon adsorption utilizes the porous nature of activated carbon to strongly adsorb harmful substances like formaldehyde, but it requires regular replacement. Photocatalyst technology uses ultraviolet light to catalyze the decomposition of organic pollutants, being efficient and long-lasting, but it requires sufficient indoor lighting. Air purifiers with built-in high-efficiency filters can effectively filter harmful gases like formaldehyde. Ventilation is the simplest and most effective method; regularly opening windows to accelerate indoor-outdoor air circulation can quickly reduce indoor formaldehyde concentration.
