Office Chair Footrest Test

Admin October 09, 2026

The office chair footrest test mainly includes the five-star foot strength test and the caster life and durability test.

Five-Star Foot Strength Test

  • Test Scope: It comprehensively covers the performance of five-star feet with different materials (engineering plastics, aluminum alloy die-castings, steel welded parts, etc.), structural forms (traditional five-claw structures, reinforced five-star feet), applicable chair types (executive office chairs, conference chairs, gaming chairs, medical chairs, etc.), and load levels (from 1100N to 1360N or even higher loads).
  • Test Items: Based on standards such as BIFMA X5.1 and GB/T 22899.2, the core items include:
    • Static Load Test: Evaluate the resistance to deformation and fracture, including center loading tests and individual loading tests for each caster. For example, an office chair five-claw static pressure testing machine can apply a force of 7,560N to the five-star foot for 1 minute. After two tests, check for any damage or deformation.
    • Tipping Test: Include forward, backward, and lateral tipping tests to evaluate the anti-tipping ability in different directions.
    • Cyclic Life Test: Inspect the fatigue resistance and long-term structural integrity through durability tests.
    • Drop Impact Test: Evaluate the impact toughness.
  • Test Methods: The tests strictly follow standard procedures. For example, in the static load test, the five-star foot needs to be combined with a gas rod for testing.

Caster Life and Durability Test

  • Office Chair Caster Life Testing Machine: It can simulate the scenarios of a chair sliding on both obstacle-free and obstacle-filled floors, detecting problems such as caster wear, jamming, and wheel detachment, meeting the requirements of office chair testing standards.
  • Office Chair Caster Durability Testing Instrument: It complies with standards such as BIFMA X5.1. Driven by a variable-frequency motor, the office chair performs back-and-forth movements with a stroke of 762mm and a speed of 8 - 12 times per minute. During the test, a load of 113 kg is applied to the seat surface to simulate actual usage loads. Its clamping fixtures support height adjustment from 80 - 500mm. The control system uses a PLC module and an LCD display for parameter setting and monitoring. Some models are equipped with a dual-station independent testing structure and a servo motor silent operation system. They are built with imported sensors to ensure data accuracy and integrate functions such as power-off protection. This instrument can set up testing scenarios with smooth surfaces or obstacles, meeting the multi-scenario evaluation requirements of the BIFMA standard for caster durability.
