Office Chair Footrest Disassembly
The disassembly of an office chair footrest requires selecting the appropriate method based on its different structures, as detailed below:

Universal Five-Star Footrest Disassembly Methods
Method 1: Shaking and Lifting Method
Place the chair on a stable surface, step on the five-star footrest with one foot to secure it, and grip both sides of the seat cushion firmly. Gently shake it left and right while simultaneously lifting upwards. If it does not loosen, repeat the operation by changing the grip position, using the principle of leverage to gradually separate the footrest from the seat. This method is suitable for conventional structures where the footrest and the central column are not secured with a retaining spring.Method 2: Retaining Spring/Tapping Disassembly Method
Invert the chair and inspect the bottom of the central column:- With a flat washer retaining spring: Use a tool to remove the retaining spring, directly pull out the old footrest, and replace it with a new one.
- Without a retaining spring: The footrest and the steel column form a conical press-fit structure. Use a soft hammer (such as a rubber hammer) to gently tap the edge of the footrest along the axis of the central column, utilizing vibration to gradually loosen it. Avoid directly tapping the metal surface to prevent damage.
Disassembly Steps for Specific Structures
Tool Preparation
You will need a Phillips screwdriver, a wrench, and a small hammer. If caster disassembly is involved, prioritize preparing a small hammer for assistance.Part Identification
The footrest consists of three parts: casters, chair leg supports, and a connecting base. Before disassembly, identify the target part (such as replacing only the casters or the entire disassembly).Caster Disassembly
Invert the chair and gently tap the bottom claws of the casters with a small hammer. Once they pop out, use a wrench to rotate them counterclockwise and remove them. Note: Wear gloves during operation to prevent injury from the claws popping out.Chair Leg Support Disassembly
Unscrew the fixing screws between the connecting base and the support, use a wrench to grip the root of the support, and slowly rotate it outwards to disassemble. If the support and the central column are threaded, ensure the screws are completely loosened before applying force.Connecting Base Disassembly
Unscrew all the screws between the seat and the connecting base, and use a wrench to separate the two. If the connecting base and the central column are of an integrated design, synchronously disassemble the surrounding accessories (such as the gas rod fixing ring).
Precautions
- Force Control: Avoid violent operations during disassembly, especially during tapping or rotating steps, to prevent deformation of parts or damage to threads.
- Screw Inspection: Before disassembly, confirm that all related screws have been loosened to avoid jamming due to omissions.
- Recording for Reassembly: If you are not familiar with the assembly process, it is recommended to take photos in stages to record the positions of parts and the corresponding relationships of screws for easier reassembly later.
- Safety Protection: Keep the operating environment clean to avoid losing small parts; pay attention to hand stability when using tools to prevent slipping and injury.
