Office Chair Footrest Disassembly

Admin October 09, 2026

The disassembly method for an office chair footrest should be selected based on its connection type. Here are common types and steps:

1. Screw-fixed type If the footrest is connected to the base with screws, first identify the screw type. In most cases, a hex wrench is used (for example, the Sihoo C series C300/C500 requires the removal of three fixing screws). Insert the wrench into the screw hole and turn it counterclockwise to loosen. If the screws are cross-shaped or flat-head, use the corresponding screwdriver. In case of stripped screws, use needle-nose pliers to hold the screw head steady while turning the screwdriver in the opposite direction to avoid direct forceful disassembly that could damage the threads.

2. Direct-insertion structure This type of structure is common in ordinary office chairs, where the footrest's metal rod is directly inserted into the holes of the five-star base. To disassemble, hold the base of the footrest with both hands and shake it slightly from side to side to break the friction between the metal rod and the holes while slowly pulling it upward. If there is a retaining clip at the joint, first use needle-nose pliers to pull out the protruding end of the clip, then repeat the shaking and pulling action. Tapping the joint lightly with a rubber mallet can speed up the separation, but avoid using a metal hammer to prevent deformation of the metal rod.

3. Other special connection methods

  • Seat-shaking method: Suitable for cases where the footrest is integrated with the seat. Step on the five-star base with one foot to keep it stable, grab both sides of the seat with both hands, and gradually separate the connection by shaking it from side to side and pulling it upward. If the first attempt is unsuccessful, switch to the other sides of the seat and repeat the operation, using the lever principle to gradually loosen the buckles.
  • Central-column retaining clip disassembly method: After placing the chair upside down, check if there is a flat washer retaining clip at the bottom of the central column. If there is a clip, use needle-nose pliers to remove it and then pull out the old five-star base. If there is no clip, it means the five-star base is connected to the steel column by tapered pressing. In this case, use an iron hammer to lightly tap the edge of the five-star base to separate it from the steel column by vibration. When installing new components, ensure the tapered interfaces are aligned and press down vertically.

Precautions:

  • It is recommended to take photos of the original structure before disassembly for reference during reassembly.
  • Wear gloves during operation to avoid cuts from metal parts.
  • If encountering stubborn connections, spray a small amount of lubricant (such as WD-40) onto the joint and wait 5-10 minutes before attempting disassembly again.
