Office Chair Footrest Broken
After the footrest of an office chair breaks, you can choose to repair or replace it based on the extent of the damage. Here are the specific methods:

I. Repair Methods
Repairing Minor Breaks If the break is minor (such as local cracks or slight deformation), you can try using glue or screws for repair. Before repairing, thoroughly clean the surface of the broken footrest, removing dust, oil, and other impurities, and sand the broken edges to increase the bonding area. If there is misalignment at the broken part, correct the position of the broken footrest first to ensure structural stability after repair. When using glue, it is recommended to choose high-strength epoxy resin glue, apply it evenly, and then fix it with clamps until the glue is completely cured. If using screws for fixation, drill holes on both sides of the broken part and install matching screws to ensure a firm connection.
Repairing Broken Plastic Footrests After a plastic footrest breaks, the bonding effect of traditional glue may be limited. Drill two to three small holes with a diameter of about 2-3 millimeters at the broken part. Use a wooden board or a hard plastic sheet as a reinforcement piece to cover both sides of the broken part. Thread wire through the small holes and tighten it to form a mechanical fixing structure. This method is suitable for cases where the broken surface is large or the glue bonding fails. However, pay attention to the tightening force of the wire to avoid excessive squeezing that could cause secondary cracking of the plastic.
II. Replacement Methods
Replacing Casters If only the casters are damaged, first confirm the type of caster (threaded or pin-type). Threaded casters are removed by rotation, while pin-type casters need to be pried out with a tool after removing the retaining clip. When installing new casters, ensure that the model matches (such as the diameter of the caster and the load-bearing parameters). Threaded casters are directly screwed into the holes on the footrest, while pin-type casters need to be aligned with the holes and then pressed in and fixed with a retaining clip.
Replacing the Five-Star Base If the five-star base is broken, deformed, or detached, first remove the old base. For threaded connections, use a wrench to rotate the central axis of the footrest counterclockwise. For retaining clip connections, use a flat washer retaining clip plier to remove the retaining clip, or gently tap the connection with a rubber mallet to make the old base fall off. When purchasing a new base, match the size (such as the diameter of the central axis and the distance between the caster holes) and material (such as nylon or steel) of the original footrest. During installation, align the central axis of the new base with the hole on the chair's gas lift and rotate it clockwise to fix it or press in the retaining clip.
III. Precautions
- Evaluate the Repair Value: If the chair is inexpensive, has been in use for more than 5 years, or has multiple broken parts on the footrest, it is recommended to directly replace it with a new chair to avoid increasing costs due to repeated repairs.
- Handling Plastic Footrests: Plastic footrests are usually difficult to completely repair after breaking, and the replacement cost is relatively low (about a few dozen yuan). It is advisable to choose replacement over repair.
- Professional Operation Advice: If you are unsure about the disassembly or fixing methods of the structure, you can contact the manufacturer for a repair manual or contact a professional repair person to avoid secondary damage caused by improper operation.
