Office Chair Footrest Bending

Admin October 12, 2026

The bending of an office chair footrest is usually related to material or structural design flaws and can be resolved by replacing it with a high-strength footrest.

Material Issues Are the Core Cause of Footrest Bending

Different materials for footrests vary significantly in their resistance to bending. Plastic footrests have low material strength and are prone to breaking under long-term weight-bearing or uneven force distribution, as seen in cases where old chairs wobble due to broken plastic supports. Steel footrests, while having higher strength, are susceptible to cracks at welded joints due to stress concentration if welding processes are used, potentially leading to bending and deformation after long-term use. Aluminum alloy footrests, molded in one piece without welds, have higher overall strength, low density, and corrosion resistance, making them less likely to deform over long-term use. Additionally, material thickness directly affects load-bearing capacity; for example, bow-shaped metal footrests, with their thickened bases and die-cast patterns, can distribute pressure and enhance stability.

Structural Design Flaws Exacerbate Bending Risks

The structural design of a footrest directly impacts its resistance to bending. Five-star footrests, with their spread-out legs, distribute force more evenly and offer better stability than three- or four-leg designs. If the spacing between footrest legs is too small or the angles are unreasonable, a shift in the center of gravity can lead to excessive force on one side, accelerating bending. Furthermore, the strength of connecting components is crucial; for example, if the fixing screws between the gas lift and the footrest become loose, it can cause uneven force distribution on the footrest, leading to deformation after long-term use.

Replacing with a High-Strength Footrest Is an Effective Solution

If the footrest is already bent, choose a footrest with the appropriate material and structure based on your needs. Steel five-star footrests are budget-friendly (starting at 13.16 yuan) and suitable for scenarios with limited budgets and low load-bearing requirements. Aluminum alloy five-star footrests, with their one-piece molding process and higher strength, are ideal for long-term use or scenarios with high load-bearing requirements, typically priced between 50 and 150 yuan. When replacing, ensure compatibility between the footrest and the gas lift, checking that the screw hole positions match to avoid wobbling after installation.

Daily Use Can Extend Footrest Lifespan

Avoid prolonged overloading (it is recommended that the load does not exceed 120 kg), regularly check if the connecting components of the footrest are loose, and avoid dragging the chair when moving it to reduce the risk of footrest bending. If the footrest is slightly deformed, you can temporarily fix it by adjusting the chair height or using shims, but if it is severely bent, replace it promptly to avoid safety hazards.
