Office Chair Foot Heightening

Admin October 09, 2026

There are several methods for heightening the feet of an office chair:

Adjusting the Foot Scales: Most office chairs have adjustable scales at the bottom of their feet. By rotating each foot to the same scale, the chair can be evenly heightened. This method is simple to operate and requires no additional tools, but the heightening range is limited, making it suitable for minor adjustments.

DIY Foot Heightening: Use scissors, glue (or double-sided tape), and fabric or old clothes. Cut the fabric into shapes that match the chair feet and paste them onto the bottom of the feet. Choosing thicker fabric can enhance the heightening effect and durability. This method is low-cost, but it is important to consider the load-bearing capacity of the fabric to avoid deformation or detachment after long-term use.

Heightening with Objects: After removing the top and bottom of an empty Maidong bottle, place it under the chair feet to adjust the height as needed. You can also use thick wooden boards, solid wood blocks, plastic stool surfaces, old books, compacted and bundled cardboard boxes, or yoga bricks, etc., as long as they are flat and undamaged materials to heighten the chair feet. Ensure that the heightening height of each foot is consistent, with an error not exceeding 1 millimeter, to avoid tilting or wobbling of the chair.

Adding Heightening Legs: Specialized chair heightening legs are available on the market, mostly made of metal or plastic, with a sturdy structure. After purchase, install them directly at the bottom of the chair, ensuring they are firmly and stably installed. After installation, you can sit on the chair multiple times to verify its stability. This method has a significant heightening effect, but it is important to choose a model that matches the chair feet.

Chair Foot Heightening Accessories: Specialized chair heightening feet are mostly made of metal or plastic and have screw holes for fixing. They can be directly replaced or added to the original chair feet. Some office chairs can be heightened by replacing them with longer pneumatic rods. Note that the load-bearing parameter generally needs to be โ‰ฅ120 kilograms, and ensure that the pneumatic rod has safety certifications such as SGS and TรœV.

Professional Tool Modification: For wooden chairs, you can ask a carpenter to add extension legs under the chair feet and fix them with wood screws. Metal chair feet can be heightened by welding, but this should be done by a professional. This method is suitable for situations where there are special requirements for the heightening range or the chair structure is special, but it is costly and may affect the original design of the chair.

Precautions: The heightening material must meet the load-bearing requirements to prevent breakage and falling. The chair feet must be kept level when heightened, and the height error must be strictly controlled. When modifying, pay attention to the safety certification of the pneumatic rod and prohibit the modification of unqualified products privately. When installing heightening legs or accessories, ensure they are firmly and stably installed to avoid loosening during use.
