Office Chair Foot Height Increase

Admin October 09, 2026

The height of office chair feet can be increased through temporary heightening, long-term modification, using height-increasing pads/footrests, or adjusting the original device. It is necessary to choose a safe and compliant method according to the needs.

Temporary Heightening

If short-term height adjustment is required, block-type tools or seat cushion heightening can be selected. Block-type tools include thick wooden boards, solid wood blocks, and plastic stool surfaces (such as folding stools). Ensure that the materials are flat and undamaged to prevent the chair from wobbling. Lightweight items such as old books, compacted and bundled cardboard boxes, or yoga bricks can also be stacked for use. However, it is necessary to ensure that the height increase for each chair foot is consistent, with an error of no more than 1 millimeter, to avoid imbalance. Seat cushion heightening can be achieved by placing high-density sponge pads, memory foam cushions, or latex pads (with a thickness of 5 to 15 centimeters) and securing them with anti-slip mats. Folding mattresses or inflatable mattresses inflated to a relatively hard state can be directly laid on the chair surface, suitable for temporary heightening needs.

Long-term Modification

For long-term use, it is recommended to choose chair foot height-increasing accessories or professional tool modification. Specialized chair height-increasing feet are mostly made of metal or plastic and come with screw-fixing holes, which can be directly replaced or added to the original chair feet. If the office chair supports the replacement of the gas lift, choose a product with a load-bearing parameter of โ‰ฅ120 kilograms and ensure that it has passed safety certifications such as SGS and TรœV to avoid privately modifying unqualified accessories. For wooden-structured chairs, a carpenter can be hired to add extension legs under the chair feet and fix them with wood screws. Metal chair feet need to be welded by professionals for heightening to prevent structural deformation.

Using Height-increasing Pads/Footrests

Specialized furniture height-increasing pads or footrests can be directly placed over or attached to the bottom of the chair legs. They are mostly made of anti-slip and wear-resistant rubber, plastic, or metal, with suction cups or anti-slip textures designed at the bottom. Common products can increase the height by 2 to 5 centimeters, and some can reach 8 to 12 centimeters. Most installations are tool-free and suitable for wooden chairs, iron-framed chairs, etc. When purchasing, measure the thickness of the chair legs to avoid mismatched sizes.

Adjusting the Original Device

Some office chairs come with built-in height adjustment functions, such as gas lifts, manual knobs, levers, pull rods, or electric adjustment switches. They can be adjusted to the appropriate height according to the product instructions. Before adjustment, confirm the safety certification of the gas lift and avoid using damaged or aged components.

Precautions: The heightening materials should meet the load-bearing requirements to prevent breakage and falls. The chair feet should be kept level when heightened. When modifying, prioritize compliant accessories. The footrests should be anti-slip, sturdy, and of the appropriate size.
