Office Chair Foot Compression

Admin October 08, 2026

The issue of foot compression from office chairs is usually related to the poor performance of plastic casters or insufficient design of leg support, and can be resolved by adjusting the casters, changing the material, or optimizing the support structure.

Inappropriate Caster Height

If the plastic casters on an office chair are too high or too low, it can result in poor sliding, loud noise, and even foot compression due to inadequate contact. The solution is to adjust the caster height: Lift the upper part of the chair off the ground, locate and loosen the fixing screws beside the casters, adjust the caster position up or down according to actual needs, ensuring tight contact with the ground and an appropriate height (for example, the soles of the feet can rest naturally on the ground), and then refasten the screws. This operation can restore smooth sliding of the casters and reduce pressure on the feet caused by improper height.

Poor Caster Rotation or Low-Quality Material

If the caster track accumulates dust, hair, or other debris, it can hinder the free rotation of the casters, leading to stuttering movement; low-quality plastic casters are prone to deformation and wear, further exacerbating the foot compression issue. For debris in the track, clean the caster track: First, use a brush to remove dust and dirt from the track surface, then use a vacuum cleaner to clear any remaining debris, and finally spray a small amount of neutral cleaner, wipe clean with a dry cloth, and allow to dry. For material issues, it is recommended to replace the casters: Choose materials such as rubber or polyurethane that are wear-resistant and have good elasticity; these materials can reduce rolling resistance, extend service life, and reduce pressure on the feet.

Insufficient Leg Support Design

Some office chairs do not fully consider the need for leg blood circulation, and prolonged use may lead to numbness or swelling in the feet. Optimizing the support structure can alleviate foot compression: For example, the Yongyi Ergonomic Chair Flow360 features a three-fold magic carpet footrest design, providing comprehensive support from the thighs to the ankles through an adjustable footrest plate, dispersing body pressure, and promoting blood circulation. If the existing chair does not have such a design, try adding a footrest or adjusting the seat height to keep the knees and hip joints naturally bent, reducing the burden on the feet.

By addressing caster issues or optimizing support design in a targeted manner, the phenomenon of foot compression from office chairs can be effectively resolved, enhancing comfort during use.
