Office Chair Foot Claw Removal
The method for removing the foot claws (five-star base) of an office chair should be selected based on the specific structure, with common approaches as follows:

I. Removal of Regular Five-Star Bases (Without Special Fixing Structures)
Seat Cushion Shaking and Lifting Method Place the chair on a stable floor, step on the five-star base with one foot to keep it steady, and firmly grasp the edges of the seat cushion with both hands. By alternately shaking the seat cushion from side to side and lifting it upwards simultaneously, use inertia to break the connection between the base and the central column. If the first attempt is unsuccessful, change the gripping position (such as the front or back of the seat cushion) and repeat the operation until the base loosens. This method is suitable for most chairs where the gas lift and the five-star base are fixed by friction.
Inverted Removal Method (Check the Central Column Structure) Slowly invert the chair and place it to avoid severe impacts that could damage the parts. Observe the structure at the bottom of the central column:
- With a flat washer and snap ring: Use needle-nose pliers or a screwdriver to remove the snap ring, then directly pull out the old five-star base. After replacing it with a new one, reinsert the snap ring to secure it.
- Without a snap ring design: If the connection between the five-star base and the steel column is conical, use a soft rubber mallet to lightly tap along the edge of the base, using vibrations to gradually detach it from the central column. Tap evenly to avoid local deformation.
II. Removal of Special Models (Such as the Sihoo C Series)
The footrests of the Sihoo C300/C500 models are fixed with three screws, and the removal steps are as follows:
- Lay the chair flat and use a Phillips screwdriver to loosen the three fixing screws at the connection between the footrest and the five-star base counterclockwise.
- After completely removing the screws, lift the footrest vertically upwards to separate it. When installing a new footrest, align the screw holes and tighten the screws one by one until they are firmly fixed.
Precautions
- Before operation, ensure that the gas lift of the chair is in a fully released state to avoid parts being ejected due to high pressure and causing injury.
- When removing a conical-connected base, it is advisable to lay a soft pad on the floor to prevent the base from slipping and damaging the floor during tapping.
- If encountering stubborn latches, spray a small amount of WD-40 lubricant to help loosen them, but avoid letting the liquid seep into the gas lift.
- When replacing parts, ensure that the specifications of the new parts are consistent with the original factory ones, especially the angle match of the conical connections, as otherwise, stability may be affected.
The above methods cover the removal scenarios of mainstream office chair foot claws. When operating, select the corresponding steps based on the actual structure, and start with the minimum force, gradually increasing it until the parts are separated.
