Office Chair Foot Air Leak
An air leak in the foot of an office chair can be resolved by inspection and repair, using repair tools, replacing parts, or contacting after-sales service.

Air leaks in the foot of an office chair are usually related to damage to the internal inflation device or loose connections within the chair. For pneumatic-rod office chairs, the most common cause of air leaks is the aging of the internal seals in the pneumatic rod, leading to continuous air pressure leakage and causing the seat to automatically sink after sitting. Additionally, scratches, tears, or other damage on the chair's surface, or loose connections in the inflation device, can also cause air leaks.
Specific solutions are as follows:
Self-inspection and repair
- First, check the chair's surface for obvious damage, such as scratches, tears, or holes. If damage is found, use specialized glue or repair tools to fix it, ensuring the damaged area is sealed.
- Check the inflation device (such as the connection between the pneumatic rod and the five-star base) for looseness. If loose, reinstall and tighten the connecting parts to prevent air leaks due to poor contact.
Use inflation tape or repair kits
- If the location of the air leak is difficult to observe directly, locate it by applying soapy water: evenly spread soapy water on the chair's surface and observe for bubbles. The location of the bubbles indicates the air leak point.
- After locating the air leak point, wrap it with inflation tape for sealing, or use an inflation repair kit (usually including repair patches and glue) for repair. Ensure the patch fully adheres to the leak point and the glue dries completely to form a secure seal.
Replace the pneumatic rod
- If the air leak is caused by aging of the internal seals in the pneumatic rod, disassemble the seat, separate the five-star base from the pneumatic rod assembly, and replace it with a new pneumatic rod. It is recommended to choose a thickened explosion-proof pneumatic rod, which offers better sealing and a longer service life, effectively reducing the risk of air leaks.
Contact after-sales service or professional repair
- If self-repair is ineffective or you are unfamiliar with the chair's structure, it is recommended to contact after-sales service or a professional repair technician. The pneumatic rod involves high-pressure components, and improper operation can cause safety issues (such as explosions), so non-professionals should proceed with caution.
Preventive measures: Choose a reliable brand when purchasing a chair, regularly inspect and clean the chair, avoid excessive use or applying excessive force to the seat, to extend the chair's service life and reduce the risk of air leaks.
